WAKE FOREST--Virginia May Mathis, 102, formerly of Cocoa Beach, Fla., died Tuesday, October 9, 2018 in Wake Forest, NC at the Carillon Assisted Living residence.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late William Alvah Thames and Irene Carlin Thames. After her husband Delbert retired from a successful career with General Motors, she and Delbert moved to Cocoa Beach, FL, where they spent many years enjoying their lives, their families, and each other. After Delbert's death in 2006, Virginia lived with her daughter, Pamela Berry, and son-in-law John Berry in Louisburg, NC until she moved to Carillon Assisted Living in 2017.

Virginia is survived by her daughter, Pamela, and son-in-law John Berry of Louisburg, NC; her loving grandchildren, Michael Tomczyk and Amy Hegel; her loving step-granddaughters, Donna Satchell and Terri Waldron; three great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and twin step-great-great-granddaughters.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on October 15, 2018 at Florida Memorial Funeral Home in Rockledge, FL. Interment will follow immediately in the Memorial Gardens.

Arrangements handled by Brown-Wynne Funeral Home of Raleigh, NC and Florida Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home of Rockledge, FL.
