CHARLES GRAY BENNETT

ZEBULON - Charles Gray Bennett, 84, of NC 39 Hwy., Zebulon, died Friday morning at Wake Med in Raleigh. He was born in Franklin County, a son of the late James Edwin and Sophie Strickland Bennett. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Nell B. Boone, and brother, James Leo Bennett.

Mr. Bennett was a retired mechanical engineer with Amp Inc. and was a veteran of the US Navy, having served in the Korean Conflict.

A memorial service will be held 2 pm, Tuesday, October 23rd, at Poplar Spring Baptist Church with Reverend Matthew James and Dr. Steven Wade officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 ½ years, Peggy Jo Bailey Bennett; children, Betty Jo Raybon and Mike Standish of Zebulon, Bobby Charles Bennett of Raleigh and Tony Bailey Bennett and wife Traci of Zebulon; grandson, Troy B. Bennett; brothers, Larry Bennett and wife, Judy of Louisburg and Dan Bennett of Durham; sisters-in-law, Barbara Bennett of Louisburg, Charlotte Bennett of Durham and Diane Bailey Black of Zebulon; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 1:00 - 2:00 pm Tuesday prior to the service at Poplar Spring Baptist Church.

Flowers accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Poplar Spring Baptist Church, 89 Brantleytown Road, Zebulon, NC 27597.
