May 19, 1938 - December 9, 2018

LOUISBURG - Alma Layton Gupton, 80, of Louisburg, transitioned peacefully to her eternal home at Transitions Hospice House in Raleigh on December 9, 2018.

Alma was born May 19, 1938 to James Rossie and Myrecia "Ricka" Bowden Layton. Alma married her high school sweetheart, Bobby Ray Gupton, on February 21, 1957. Alma was an LPN and worked at Franklin Memorial Hospital and did many nursing duties as a private duty nurse where she donated many hours to patients who could not afford the services. Alma loved being a nurse and had almost completed her education to be an RN when she injured her back. Alma loved teaching children in Sunday school and taught for approximately 35 years at both Centerville Baptist and Duke Memorial Baptist Church. She was an active member of Duke Memorial until her health no longer allowed her to attend.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Duke Memorial Baptist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall and all other times at the home.

Alma is survived by her husband, Bobby Ray Gupton of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Barry and Julie Gupton of Louisburg; Gary and Kris Gupton of Leland and Sammy and Denise Gupton of Louisburg. She had two grandchildren who were the apples of her eye, Jonathan and Lauren Gupton and Ana Gupton; two great-granddaughters, Anna Johnson and Aubrey Gupton; her siblings, James and Doris Layton of Apex; Marjorie Fuller of Louisburg; Donald and Rhonda Layton of Virginia, and Randolph and Dinna Layton of Pennsylvania.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either Duke Memorial Baptist Church, Education Fund, c/o Kathy Harris, 89 Huford Harris Road, Spring Hope, NC 27882 of Transitions Hospice House, 250 Hospice Cr., Raleigh, NC 27607.
