FRANKLINTON--Michael Holger Meier, 74, of Franklinton went to be with the Lord on December 10, 2018. He was born in Germany on July 20, 1944 to the late Inka Meier Lange.
Mike moved to the United States with his mother when he was 12 years old. He served in the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy he met and married his wife, Janie Ross Meier. He enjoyed fishing, and was brutally honest. Mike, or "Rock" to those close to him, collected stamps and old coins. He loved the game of soccer, having been a semi-pro player in New York when he was younger and then he helped to start and coach the soccer program at Wake Forest High School. Mike also loved horses, and was a ringmaster for the CCWHA for 7 years.
In addition to his wife, Janie, Mike is survived by his sons, Christopher Meier (Margaret) and Shane Meier; his grandchildren, Amber Meier, Erica Jones, Chris Jones, and Waylond Beddingfield; and a great-grandson, Michael Jones.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 15, 2018 from 1:00-1:45 pm at Lancaster's Franklinton Chapel, 504 East Mason St., Franklinton, NC 27525, where a memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, with Pastor Spencer Strickland officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
