BENJAMIN "BEN" E. SMITH

KITTRELL--Benjamin Earl "Ben" Smith departed this life on March 17, 2019 into the arms of Jesus to hear "Well done, good and faithful servant." He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Saviour at the age of 26 and strived to serve Jesus and his fellow man throughout his life. He was born on January 21, 1923, the son of Noel and Lula Hale Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Jim Smith, Louise Pernell, Ed Hale and John H. Smith.

Ben farmed all of his life alongside his predeceased wife, Grace Edwards Smith, who he always said lovingly "she's my right-hand man." Ben and Grace were married 70 years at the time of her death, November 1, 2013. In addition to farming, he had various part-time jobs. He retired from Waste Industries at the age of 89 after 16 years of service. He loved his work and all the wonderful patrons. Ben was an active member of Perry's Chapel Baptist Church where he served as deacon, building and grounds and visitation committees. He loved his church family.

He is survived by his daughter, Elaine Couch of Roxboro; son, Wesley Smith (Shelia); eight grandchildren, Wesley Smith, II "Buddy" (Shelia), Stacy Smith, Dwayne Smith of Kittrell, Susan Blalock (Leon), Nancy Rouse (Frank) of Roxboro, Ricky Couch (Julie), Michael Couch (Vickie) of Durham and Keith Couch (Micki) of Roxboro; twenty great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Saturday at 2:00 pm in the fellowship hall at Perry's Chapel Baptist Church where funeral services will follow at 3:00 pm, with the Reverend James Quinn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made in Ben's memory to Perry's Chapel Baptist Church, 894 Perry's Chapel Church Road, Franklinton, NC 27525 for the sound/video system. Arrangements are being handled by Lancaster Funeral and Cremation Services, 804 N. Bickett Blvd., Louisburg, NC 27549. Online condolences may be made to www.lancasterfcs.com.
