ROGER W. MATTHEWS
March 20, 1943 - June 19, 2019

LOUISBURG- Roger Wheless Matthews, 76, of Louisburg, died Wednesday afternoon.

Roger was a son of the late William and Nell C. Matthews. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Karen Anne Matthews; sister, Barbara Ann Barber; and brothers, Bill Matthews and Charles Matthews.

Roger grew up on a farm in Franklin County. He graduated from Mills High School in Louisburg. After graduation he worked for Sun Terrace for 16 years and then went on to be a self-employed custom cabinet maker until his retirement. He was a member of Rock Spring Baptist Church for 35 years where he taught Sunday school and served as a Deacon. After his retirement he enjoyed restoring antique tractors. Roger was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend.

A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Friday at Rock Spring Baptist Church with Rev. Melton Tyson and Rev. Jason Havens officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Roger is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Anne S. Matthews; sons and daughters-in-law, Daren and Ronda Matthews of Nolensville, TN; John and Ashley Matthews of Louisburg; sister, Betty Jean Coghill of Greensboro; brother and sister-in-law, Danny and Geraldine Matthews of Louisburg; grandchildren, Katelin Matthews and Chase Matthews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rock Spring Baptist Church, 34 Rock Springs Church Rd., Louisburg, NC 27549.
