DR. JAMES EVAN HORTON

ZEBULON - Dr. James Evan Horton, 67, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 6, 2019.

James was born in Louisburg, NC, on December 15, 1951, the son of the late George and Eunice Horton. His brother, George B. Horton, also preceded him in death.

He was a member of Pine Ridge Baptist Church, where he was serving as pastor. During his 35 years of ministry in Southern Baptist Churches, he had pastored churches in Nash, Granville, Wilkes, Forsyth, Franklin and Chowan Counties. A 1970 graduate of Bunn High School, James graduated from Louisburg College, and NC State University, and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from Trinity College of the Bible and Theological Seminary.

A funeral service will be held 2 pm Wednesday, at Pine Ridge Baptist Church with Reverend Ricky Browder officiating. Burial will follow in Ransdell Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.

James is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Gloria Bartholomew Horton; son and daughter-in-law , Eric J. and Natalie Horton of Wendell; daughter and son-in-law, Jessica H. and Clay Thompson of Apex; grandchildren, Ella Grace and Anna Mae Horton and a new grandchild arriving in November; sisters, Louise Barbour and husband, Jerry of Princeton, Evelyn Smith of Burlington; brother, Charles Horton of SC; sister- in-law, Pat Horton of Wendell; brother-in-law, Morty Bartholomew and wife, Barbara of Castalia; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Flowers accepted or memorials may be made to Pine Ridge Baptist Church, General Fund, 874 Pine Ridge Rd., Zebulon, NC 27597.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Strickland Funeral Home, 103 W. Franklin St., Louisburg and other times at the home.
