SALLIE A. COTTRELL

HENDERSON- Sallie Mae Ayscue Cottrell, 102, of 2275 Ruin Creek Road, died Thursday, July 11, 2019 in a local nursing home. Born in Franklin County on September 30, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Melvin W. Ayscue and Mary Tharrington Ayscue, and the widow of Elvin Thomas Cottrell. Mrs. Cottrell was raised in the Epsom Community and was a graduate of Epsom High School. She was a homemaker and member of Henderson Church of Christ.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 4 pm in the chapel of J.M. White Funeral Home by Pastor Curtis Nelson and Rev. Tammy Ayscue. Burial will follow in Carey Baptist Church Cemetery.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ellen Briley of Henderson; a great-granddaughter, Skylar Cottrell; and a sister-in-law, Juanita S. Ayscue.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Bailey T. Cottrell; a grandson, C. Lance Cottrell; three sisters, Gladys A. Edwards (John), Fannie A. Faulkner (Albert), and Elaine A. Wrenn (Mack); and five brothers, Jack T. Ayscue (Lona), Melvin W. Ayscue (Mabel), Richard G. Ayscue (Louise), Calvin S. Ayscue, and Donald F. Ayscue (Joyce).

The family will receive friends on Sunday prior to the service from 3 until 4 pm at J.M. White Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Donald F. Ayscue, Jr., Michael J. Ayscue, David Ayscue, Eric C. Joyner, Timothy Sobolak, and Mark Carter.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Henderson Church of Christ, 1211 Dorsey Avenue, Henderson, NC 27536.

Arrangements are by J.M. White Funeral Home.
