WILLIE PERRY PERNELL

RALEIGH--Willie Perry Pernell, 84, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019 at his home in Raleigh. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, Nov. 2, at 2 p.m. at Mountain Grove Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.

He was born to the late Rosa Lee Murray Pernell and Miggie Washington Pernell on November 18, 1934 and raised in Louisburg.

Surviving: his wife, Catherine R. Pernell (who died on Oct. 25, 2019); her son, Sam; Perry's son, Rodney; and grandson, Brandon. He is further survived by sisters-in-law, Avis, Marie, Audrey Pernell; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Perry was preceded in death by sisters Beaulah Moseley (Hugh) and Eva Marshall (JB); brothers, Eugene, Joseph, Otis, Newell, Forest (Ruth) and Graham E. Pernell.

Perry moved to Raleigh after graduating at Gold Sand High School. He retired from the Department of Agriculure at NC State College, a job that he loved, traveling all over North Carolina working with farmers.

After playing basketball at Gold Sand, he remained an avid sports fan, loving all sports, especially the NC State Wolfpack.
