Sailing uncharted waters

Dear editor:

As we are in uncharted waters it is comforting to me to have extremely smart people tackling the problems this virus is presenting.

Dr. Anthony Fauci and his team are, in my opinion, at the top of the mountain in their knowledge and will not rest until this virus is contained. The efforts of both pharmaceutical companies and government agencies will find answers. The procedures to contain this virus will come from The United States!

Another extremely smart individual is Senator Chuck Shumer. It seems that every day we can view the Senator on the Senate floor telling us that everything the President is doing is wrong. Many times, the Senate floor is all but empty, so I guess he is providing his valuable time for the American people.

Most of the time when he is providing us with his knowledge there is a woman sitting behind him that honestly looks miserable. I would be willing to bet that she is a very nice individual and I completely understand her misery.

We, the people of Franklin County, should all sign a sympathy card and send it to this nice lady.

It would be a wonderful gesture.

Maybe the answer to all our problems would be for Chuck Schumer to be President. I would hope he would not look for my endorsement.

Finally, our senator, Richard Burr. He might be the smartest of them all. The good Senator allegedly dumped about $1.7 million in stocks ahead of the coronavirus related market decline. Senator Burr has generously invited the Senate Ethics Committee to investigate the allegations.

Yeah right! That is like having your mother tell your teacher that you did your homework, but you just can't find it.

The Senate Ethics Committee has a long and storied history of doing absolutely nothing! Give me a break!

I think Senator Burr should be prosecuted by the Department of Justice for insider trading. If he is not prosecuted, the Stock Act is basically meaningless. I voted for the Senator and generally agree with his politics, but it looks as if he benefitted from inside knowledge not available to the American public. I intently listened to his excuse. It is weak at the very best

Would the correct term be sleaze?

I would really like to know how someone that was selling lawnmowers prior to going into politics has over $1.5 million in the stock market. We have too many people in Washington just like Senator Burr.

Let's get rid of this one!

Maybe he should go back to selling lawnmowers. I would not buy one from him!

There could be an advantage to living in rural areas of the country during this crisis.

I would certainly hope the citizens of Franklin County as well as citizens of The United States remain safe.

I do have confidence in the resiliency and innovation of the American people.

I would also hope that mother nature would help in fighting this virus with longer day lengths and warmer temperatures this spring and summer.
