NEW SITE SOUGHT

Jonathan Nichols of the Cary firm of WithersRavenel uses ground-penetrating radar to scour Oakwood Cemetery last Friday, looking for a new location for the Confederate Monument. As expected, Nichols found several potential, unmarked graves in what had been thought was an open area but he did locate some areas where there were no graves and thus could be a spot for the relocated monument. The company was back again this week to look at other potential sites where Louisburg can locate the monument. This device uses radar beams which are sent into the ground and their returns captured by the computer mounted on the handlebars of this device. The images can help locate possible graves, rocks or even buried debris.
