DAVID G. BATTON, JR.
May 27, 1949 - November 3, 2020

LOUISBURG - David Gray Batton, Jr., 71, of Louisburg, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday morning surrounded by his loving family.

David was born on May 27, 1949 in Bunn. He was a son of the late David Gray Batton, Sr. and Dorothy Alford Batton.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2020 at the Old Bunn Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Due to the pandemic, masks and social distancing will be required. The body will lie in state at Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory on Thursday, November 5, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. for those wishing to sign the register and pay their respects.

David is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Batton; daughter and son-in-law, Tina and John Stull of Spring Hope; son and daughter-in-law, Trey and Gina Batton of Raleigh; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry Batton of Bunn; Darnell and Lou Batton of Louisburg; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and George Ray of Pilot; Carol and Carvel Cheves; Terry and Bill Holt, all of Bunn; sister-in-law, Cynthia Batton of Louisburg; grandchildren, Nicole, Taylor, Haley, Lindsey and Tyler.

David graduated from Bunn High School and then went on to play basketball at Louisburg College until he volunteered for, and proudly served in the U.S. Army. During the Vietnam War he served with the 23rd Infantry "Americal" Division "in country" from 1969-1971. After his military service he worked for the NC Department of Corrections and later for IBM where he retired. David will be remembered as a very loving and giving husband, father, uncle, brother and friend. Being part of a loving family, David always showed kindness and love to those around him.

The family would like to specially thank Heartland Hospice, Denise Sims and special caregiver, Ann Denton, for the care they gave to David.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 111 Laurel Mill Centerville Rd., Louisburg, NC 27549.
