SUE ELLEN SMITH JOHNSON

LOUISBURG, NC -- Sue Ellen Smith Johnson, 72, died May 29, 2021, at her home in Louisburg surrounded by her family. She was born on October 15, 1948, to Clyde and Florence Smith in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Sue is preceded in death by her second husband, Frederick P. Johnson. Sue is survived by her three children: son - Michael T. Smith, daughters - Katherine M. Smith and Sarah E. (Shane) Pickrel and by her three grandchildren: Davin and Ravin Pickrel and Kiera Lawrence. Sue is also survived by her sister and best friend: Martha S. (Dan) Bowles, her sister's three children and 2 grandchildren. She is survived by her first husband, Harry R. Smith.

Sue loved her family, all of which were blessed with the same stubbornness that made Sue such a strong woman. She spent countless hours volunteering at her grandsons' school where she helped in the classroom (and just about any event where they asked for volunteers), brought crafts and holiday treats, and served as the class granny for all.

She was an animal and nature lover. She enjoyed her flowers, seeing the hummingbirds return every spring, and daily walks with her sweet dachshund Matilda, who will miss Sue deeply.

No public services will be held in accordance with Sue's final wishes. In lieu of flowers and in memory of Sue, donations may be made to UNC Lineberger Cancer hospital where both she and her grandson received cancer treatment. You may donate online at https://give.unc.edu/donate?=f373724 or make checks to "UNC Lineberger" and mail to: University Development P.O. Box 309 Chapel Hill, NC 27514 with "Tribute to Sue E. Johnson" in the memo line.

Arrangements are being handled by Lancaster Funeral and Cremation Services, 804 N. Bickett Blvd., Louisburg, NC 27549. Online condolences may be made to www.lancasterfcs.com
