DARREL GLENN LEONARD

LOUISBURG, NC-- Darrel Glenn Leonard, 86, of Louisburg, died at his home on Friday, July 23, 2021. He was born on August 29, 1934 in the Red Bud community of Franklin County to Joseph Payton Leonard and Betty Gupton Leonard, both deceased. Darrel was also preceded in death by his brother, Douglas Leonard, and sister, Maggie Leonard.

Darrel graduated from Edward Best High School and worked at Burlington Mills before retiring from Square D. He enjoyed and excelled in all sports and was an accomplished golfer. He loved his church and was named Baptist Man of the Year at Louisburg Baptist in 2018 by the Brotherhood group.

Darrel is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sue Layton Leonard; daughter Kim Sledge (Andy), son Barry (Sharon); and his grandchildren: Courtney Sledge (Jacklyn), Kelsey (Jonathan), Jessica Davis (Chris), Alicia Leonard, Daniel Leonard and great-grandchild Addalynn Davis.

Funeral services were held on Monday, July 26 at Louisburg Baptist Church at 11 a.m. in the church sanctuary. The family will received friends in the Tomlinson Room immediately following the service, with burial afterwards at Lancaster Memorial Park on Hwy. 561, Louisburg.

The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice, Jackie Perry and Matthew Todd for their excellent care.

Flowers will be accepted, or contributions may be made to Louisburg Baptist Church Ramp Fund or Brotherhood group at P.O. Box 730, Louisburg, N.C.
