Ruby Louise Rudd, aged 81, passed on from this life on Saturday, September 11, 2021, surrounded by family and friends.

She was born in Louisburg, NC on June 20, 1940, daughter of the late Clifton and Eleanor Nelms Rudd. Ruby graduated from Gold Sand School in Franklin County, NC in 1958. She began her professional career as a cashier at the Colonial Store grocery in Raleigh's Cameron Village after high school, was the bookkeeper for the family business, the Farm Life Store in Clayton, NC during the 1960s to 80s, was a substitute teacher, a secretary, and retired from the Clayton Food Lion deli in the early 2000s.

"Miss Ruby" loved playing the piano, cooking, making homemade pickles (which she used to make her famous chicken salad), baking and decorating cakes, canning, making Christmas candy with her children, sewing, gardening, drawing, doing crossword puzzles and teaching Sunday School.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Donnie Rudd of Louisburg, and her husband, H. Wayne Gray in 1985. She is survived by her brother, Clarence Rudd of Raleigh, her children, Cynthia Johnson of Clayton, Tammy Sanderford of Garner, and Kevin Grey of Raleigh, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held for family and friends at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 16th at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church at 3000 E. Garner Rd, Raleigh, NC. The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. at the church, just before the service. Flowers are welcome, or donations can be made in Ruby's memory to the Melanoma Research Foundation.
