MICHAEL BERT GILLIAM

RALEIGH, NC--Michael Bert Gilliam, 66, of Raleigh, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, September 13, 2021. He was born on December 5, 1954, a son of George Bert and Maxine (West) Gilliam. He was preceded in death by his father, and his in-laws, Joe and Mary Alice Denton.

Mike's favorite thing to do was spending time with his two precious grandsons. He was also an avid fisherman and deer hunter. He loved putting together models, and doing small woodworking, which he sold on his Etsy store. Mike was a longtime member of Wood Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and was also a Deacon. He worked at CP&L/Progress Energy/Duke Energy and retired after 43 years of service.

Mike is survived by his mother, Maxine; his wife of 45 years, Mary Jo Gilliam, his two children: Michelle Gilliam Powell (Timothy), and Christopher Michael Gilliam; his two grandsons: Hunter and Luke Powell; his brother, Frankie Gilliam (Rose), and his nephew, Blake Pace (Lauren).

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Wood Baptist Church, 649 Wood Church Road, Louisburg, NC 27549. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 1-2 p.m. Interment will follow at the Gupton Family Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Wood Baptist Church.
