CALVIN HAVIRD SPANN
September 22, 1915 - January 9, 2022

PILOT, NC - Calvin H.(Havird) Spann, age 106, died January 9, 2022 in Zebulon, N.C. Son of the late Marion Havird and Myra Price Havird, he was born in Batesburg, S.C. in Saluda County. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Darnell P. Spann; infant daughter, Marilyn Christine Spann; sisters, May and Carrie and brothers, Lester, Jordan and Clyde.

Calvin joined the Army in 1935 at age 20. He served 10 years in the Army and then joined the Air Force to finish out his 21 year career in service to his country. He served in World War II in Europe. He was proud of his service.

After retirement, Calvin lived a quiet life in Pilot, N.C. He was a member of Pilot Baptist Church. Calvin was also a member of the White Stone Masonic Lodge in Wakefield for over 70 years.

Calvin is survived by his daughters, Dorothy S. Alford (John) and Judy S. Bennett (Larry); five grandchildren, Tony, David, Kevin, Gina and Stacy and seven great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pilot Baptist Church or The Masonic Home for Children in Oxford, NC.

The funeral will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, January 12 at Pilot Baptist Church Family Life Center. Livestream available at www.facebook.com/stricklandfuneral.

Burial to follow in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Zebulon. SOCIAL DISTIANCING & MASKS REQUIRED!

Calvin will lie in repose 1-5 p.m., Tuesday, January 11 at Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory, 211 W. Third St., Wendell. www.stricklandfuneralhome.net
