LOUISBURG, NC - Catherine "Cat" Strum Nelms, 95, passed away Saturday evening at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Catherine was born in Nash County to the late James Benjamin Strum and Lottie V. Frazier Strum. She was married to T.O. Nelms for 71 years. Catherine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, T.O. Nelms; sisters, Lorene S. Hagwood, Carolyn S. Nelms and Sally S. Vick; brothers, Jim Allen Strum, Marvin Strum, Jack Strum, Mack Strum, Ronald Strum and Donald Strum.

Catherine is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Aycock; Roxanne and Bill McCormac; Wendy and David Fox; sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Diane Nelms; Michael and Katherine Nelms; Keith and Betsy Nelms; sisters and brother-in-law, Kay S. Provetro and Gayle S. and Barry Miller; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

Catherine, a loving mother, homemaker, and farmers wife, was a remarkable cook and caretaker. She enjoyed preparing meals for her family, friends, and farmworkers. She loved all and everyone was her "favorite." Catherine helped with farm operations and managed the "Corner Store" with her husband, T.O.
Catherine was passionate about her family, community and church, Cedar Rock First Baptist Church. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren kept her young in spirit. She cherished the love and spiritual care she received from Pastor Nathanial Williams.

Her daughter, Linda, lovingly cared for her during the last six years of her life. She also received assistance from her caregivers, Felicia and Clara, during this time. The family is grateful for all who cared for Mother. Please accept our heartfelt love and warmest gratitude. A special thanks to Nash Hospice for the comfort and care they provided.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 25th at Cedar Rock First Baptist Church. Entombment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cedar Rock First Baptist Church, 4879 NC Hwy. 56 E., Castalia, NC 27816.
