October 11, 1929 - April 30, 2022

FUQUAY VARINA, NC- Bettie Cannady Wheless, 92, of Fuquay Varina and formerly of Wilkesboro, died Saturday morning, April 30, 2022.

Mrs. Wheless was the daughter of the late Jones and Tempie Mitchiner Cannady. She was preceded in death by her husband Perry Wheless and brothers, Nat Cannady, Jones Cannady, Jr. and Reuben Cannady.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, May 6, at the Mitchiner family Cemetery.

Mrs. Wheless is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Eleanor and Mickey Maness; Marian and Wayne Burkenbine; Beth and Tim Bundy; Amy and Dwayne Jones; sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Steve Ijames; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clyde and Betty Cannady; Fes and Frances Cannady; sisters-in-law, Dina Cannady and Helen Wilson; grandchildren, Nathaniel Harry ((Kandria); William Bundy (Amberly Farris), Clay Jones (Laura Borkenhagen) and Samuel Jones; great-granddaughter, Cecilia Harry.

Mrs. Wheless began her nursing career in 1951 at Wilkes General Hospital. She worked in different areas but favorited the OR. She also worked for many of the doctors in the county. She and her family were long time members of Wilkesboro Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Attn: Relay for Life of Wilkes County WC24W, P.O. Box 11796, Charlotte, NC 28220 or The ALS Association, North Carolina Chapter, 4 N. Blount St., Suite 200, Raleigh, NC 27601.
