Margaret "Sissy" Elizabeth King
December 14, 1948-July 29, 2022

LOUISBURG, NC--Margaret "Sissy" Elizabeth King, 73, of Louisburg, North Carolina, passed serenely at home on July 29, 2022, after surviving a 15-year fight with colon cancer. She was surrounded by her children at the time of her passing. Sissy was a loving wife, caring mother of three, and a great educator.

Sissy was born on December 14, 1948, to Joseph and Elizabeth Clifton Webb. She grew up in Franklin County, North Carolina, where she developed life-long friendships with a group of exceptional ladies who affectionately refer to themselves as the "Sassy Sistas." The Sassy Sistas have remained connected to each other through all the ups and downs that life has to offer. Their love and support helped Sissy following the loss of her husband in 2018 following his own battle with cancer.

Sissy met the love of her life, Kenneth Ancil King, II, in the summer of 1969 and later married him in 1973. Sissy and Ken enjoyed 44-years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and a passion for antiques. Sissy and Ken lovingly restored Sissy's ancestral home, the historic Clifton Home, bringing it to life inside and out. Sissy enjoyed showcasing their hard work on the Clifton Home and educating the public about its history by opening her home to the public and giving tours on the Franklin County Historic Homes Tour.

Sissy was also a great educator, having educated multiple generations over the course of her 40-year teaching career. She received a Bachelor of Science - Education from East Carolina University in 1972, and a Masters of Education in Early Childhood Education from Indiana University (Fort Wayne) in 1978. While honored to have been bestowed the recognition of Teacher of the Year for Royal Elementary in 2007-2008, she was most proud of seeing how her former students flourished.

Sissy also enjoyed being active in her community. She was a member of Louisburg United Methodist Church - United Methodist Women's Group, she was a Person Place Preservation Society board member, and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Sissy also enjoyed spending time reading and socializing as a member of the O. Henry Book Club in Louisburg.

Sissy is survived by her three children and their spouses, Jessica King (Robert King), Margo Carnahan (Patrick Carnahan), Ryan King (Jennifer Watkins); brother Joseph Webb; and four grandchildren. Sissy was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Ancil King, II; mother, Elizabeth Clifton Webb; and father, Joseph Webb.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at Louisburg United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Person Place Preservation Society, PO Box 135, Louisburg, NC 27549.

Arrangements are by Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory, Louisburg, www.stricklandfuneralhome.net.
