Joe Hurley Murphy

Durham, NC--Joe Hurley Murphy, 91 , of Durham passed away on December 11, 2022 . He was born on May 20, 1931 and raised in the Gold Sand community of Louisburg, the son of the late Tommy and Mamie Gupton Murphy. In addition to his parents, Hurley was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Murphy; his brothers, Lewis Murphy and Hubert Murphy; and sisters, Lottie Jeans and Louise Twitty.

Hurley is survived by his companion, Cora Helen Driver; his son, Eddie Murphy; his nephew, Tommy Twitty; nieces, Pam Thompson and Charlotte Murphy; his sister-in-law, Mildred Murphy; numerous cousins and other family members.

A graveside funeral was held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at Liberty Christian Church, 7818 NC Hwy 39 South, Henderson, NC 27537.

Hurley worked for more than 40 years at American Tobacco Company in Durham. He was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church in Durham. Hurley was a kind and giving man, he was known to be very responsible and hard worker, but enjoyed relaxing by fishing.
