John Oliver Sledge, III

LOUISBURG, NC--John Oliver Sledge, III, 79, passed away on November 21, 2023. John was born on June 16, 1944 to the late John Oliver Sledge Jr. and Ina Pearce Sledge.

John was the proud owner of the Murphy House Restaurant. He loved his family, and was married to the love of his life Winnie for fifty eight years. Together they had three children and were very active in the Louisburg community. John was a former Franklin County Commissioner as well as serving on the Franklin County Planning Board. Each year, John would serve Christmas Dinner to Louisburg residents at the Murphy House.

John was an active and founding board member on the Core Sound Museum in Harker's Island. John was an avid golfer and enjoy playing gin with his friends. He was a member of the Green Hill Country Club where he loved to play golf. John never met a stranger and had a heart of gold. His presence will be greatly missed in the Louisburg community.

In addition to his parents; John is preceded in death by his brother, Craig Sledge.

John is survived by wife, Winnie Sledge; three daughters, Margo Sledge, Michelle Harris (Carlston), and Melanie Mitchell (William); one grandson, Tripp Harris, three granddaughters, Taylor Harris, Caroline Holt, and Camille Mitchell and two brothers, Larry Sledge (Sheila) and Andy Sledge (Kim).

A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 27, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Forest Lakes Club House in Louisburg, NC.
