Joseph Wilbur Wood

Joseph Wilbur Wood, 87, passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at his home. He was born on July 23, 1936 to the late John Marvin Wood and Virginia Perry Wood in Wake County, NC.

In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane Williams Wood; his second wife, Nancy Z. Wood; and his daughter JoAnn Wood Cash.

Joseph is survived by his daughter, Dianne Wood; two step-sons, Leon Mintzer and David Mintzer (Beth); one step-daughter, Mona Lombardi (Richard); one granddaughter, Tomika Myers (Robert); one grandson, Jason Alley (Sheila); and three great-grandchildren, Chase Dunavan, Cheyenne Alley, and Chanson Alley.

Joseph retired after thirty-five years of service from N.C. State Government, which included John Umstead Hospital in Butner, and Dorthea Dix Hospital in Raleigh. He was a simple man who loved his family. He enjoyed watching the Carolina Panthers football games as well as Carolina Tarheels basketball games. Joseph also enjoyed relaxing and watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.

The family will receive visitors on Friday, January 26, 2024 from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Lancaster Funeral & Cremation Services in Louisburg. Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. in the Chapel at Lancaster Funeral and Cremation Services in Louisburg. Burial will be held immediately following the service at Oakwood Cemetery in Louisburg.
