Dan Edwin Bennett
February 6, 1943 - May 21, 2024
Dan Edwin Bennett

DURHAM, NC--Dan Edwin Bennett, 81 of Durham, NC passed away in the comfort of his own home on May 21, 2024.

Dan was born in Bunn, NC to James Edwin Bennett and Sophia Bruce Strickland on February 6, 1943.

Dan grew up with his sister, Edna Nell (Boone) and brothers James Leo, Charles Gray and Larry Bruce Bennett. As a teenager Dan worked on the family farm. When he got older, he attended Campbell College earning the degree Bachelor of Science. His engineering career took him to many places around the world including Sudan, Puerto Rico and Iceland to name a few. Later in years he worked as a computer technician for the state of North Carolina. One of Dan's biggest passions was politics, even running for the Democratic seat of the North Carolina House. Dan also enjoyed tracing his family's genealogy, spending many hours researching and documenting his roots.

In his twenties, Dan met Charlotte Morton and married in November of 1968. They had two children James Morton and Charlotte "Betsy" Elizabeth Bennett (Jonas.) Even though they divorced, his relationship with Charlotte remained amicable. Dan devoted himself to being a loving father and adoring grandfather.

In addition to his children, Dan is survived by his brother Larry, wife Judy, two grand-children Chloe Abagail Jonas, Katrina Rose Jonas and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in passing by his sister, older brothers and grandson Eric Shawn MacElwee.

A Celebration of life will be held on June 22, 2024, at Genesis United Methodist Church in Cary, NC at 3:30 p.m.
