Sarah Frances Murray Hagwood
December 31, 1935 - May 13, 2025

Mrs. Sarah Frances Murray Hagwood, 89, formerly of Franklinton, NC, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.

Born on December 31, 1935, to the late William Edwin Murray and Katie Beatrice Fuller Murray, she went on to graduate from Franklinton High School in 1954 and married the love of her life, William "Bill" Clinton Hagwood, on August 4, 1957. Together, they raised their two sons, William Mark and Rodney Bernard Hagwood.

She was a lifelong member of Franklinton Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and served as a deacon. She worked at the North Carolina Department of Human Resources and Health Statistics for 30 years, retiring in 1991. She will be remembered for her quick wit and sense of humor, her great cooking skills, especially baking and decorating cakes, along with delivering Meals on Wheels and planting flowers at the church.

In addition to her parents, Sarah is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Bill Hagwood, and brothers, Edwin, Clinard, and David Earl Murray. She is survived by her sons, Mark Hagwood and wife, Karen and Rodney Hagwood and wife, Tammy; grandchildren, Sarah Beth Basnight (Philip), Caleb Hagwood (Hannah), Jackson Hagwood (Cassidy), Katie Hagwood, and Connor Hagwood (Hannah); great-grandchildren, Philip "Junior" and William Basnight, Zachary Fitzgibbon, Jr. and Jack Hagwood.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 1, 2025, from 2-3 p.m. at Franklinton Baptist Church, followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m., officiated by Rev. Dr. Richard Childress and Rev. David Averette.

The family would like to thank the staff of TerraBella (formerly The Addison) in Durham and Duke Hospice for the compassionate care they provided to Sarah.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Franklinton Baptist Church, 102 W Mason St, Franklinton, NC 27525 or Duke Homecare & Hospice, 4321 Medical Park Dr, Suite 101, Durham, NC 27704, or online at www.givetodukeathome.org.
