REBECCA SWEATT HARDY
ROANOKE RAPIDS - Mrs. Rebecca Sweatt Hardy of Roanoke Rapids, formerly of Garysburg, North Carolina, was born September 17, 1916 in Northampton County. She was the daughter of the late Henry “Tony” and Sarah Benjamin Sweatt. She slipped into eternity with her heavenly Father peacefully on May 15, 2008.

She was married to Joe Wilson Hardy, who preceded her in death.

She leaves to survive, cherish her memory, carry on her legacy and flourish from her love and guidance, her children: Henry W. Hardy (Hazel), of Garysburg, N.C., Lynn and Lucille Hardy of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Margaret Taylor of Chicago; Joe Hardy (Gloria) and Richard Hardy (Sarah Thomas) of Paterson, N.J.; Emily Wesley (Frank) of Harrisburg, PA, Dorothy Scott (Michael) of Weldon, N.C., Dr. James Hardy (Felicia) of Raleigh, N.C.; Paul Hardy (Debra) of Akron, Ohio; Audrey and Melinda Hardy of the home.

She also leaves Todd Hardy (Sharon) of Roanoke Rapids, a grandson she raised in the home; her sisters, Sarah Sweatt Johnson (Andrew Mack) of Jackson, N.C., Lee Sweatt Hardy of Roanoke Rapids; sister-in-law, Lucille Hardy of Jackson; and daughter-in-law, Malinda Reid Hardy.

In addition, she leaves 31 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and a devoted caregiver, Annie Pierce.

Funeral services were Monday, May 19, 2008 at 2:00 pm at Roanoke Chapel Baptist Church in Jackson.
