Walter Lynn Lewis was recently presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Office of State Fire Marshal and was also recognized for his 50 years of community service through the Pilot Fire Department at their 50-year cerebration.
This prestigious Lifetime Achievement was presented by Tony Bailey, an officer of the State Fire Marshal Department.

The Gamma Kappa Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., has planned a Fall intake session to induct new members into the fraternity. They are hosting an information session 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 2. The session will be held at Tiffanys 110 S. Garnett Street, Henderson.
Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc was founded on January 8, 1914 on the campus of Howard University. The organization is committed to brotherhood, scholarship, and service. The Gamma Kappa Sigma Alumni chapter was founded in 1954 including Vance, Granville, Franklin and Warren counties.

The unexpected resignation of Dr. Larry Webb from his position as chief of auxiliary services with Franklin County Schools has triggered a reorganization of the central office staff.
Schools Supt. Dr. Rhonda Schuhler said Tuesday that she is reorganizing the staff to cover all the positions without hiring another person at Webb's level.
Dr. Webb, an eight and a half year veteran of Franklin County Schools, has accepted the job as chief operating officer with Durham Public Schools effective Dec. 9.

Safe Space held its annual candlelight vigil last Saturday at Grace Haven Baptist Church, remembering those whose lives were irreparably changed or lost as a result of violence.

A presentation and discussion about plans to raise test scores in Franklin County's six "low performing schools" was the focus of most of Monday's Board of Education meeting.
Leading the discussion was Dr. Lela Nichols, chief of academics, who explained the testing procedure and then outlined how school officials are planning to work with students to raise the scores.
