County ok’s budget with raises
Franklin County commissioners approved a $77 million budget for 2012-13 that gives employees a raise and provides some additional revenue, but it requires the county to dip into its savings to cover a funding gap.
On Monday night, the board approved the budget, but at least two, Commissioners Harry Foy and Don Lancaster, said the county should go into its 2013-14 budget negotiations expecting to cut the tax rate.

Louisburg firemen weren’t sure exactly what to expect last weekend when they agreed to represent their department in Raleigh as that fire department celebrated its 100th anniversary.
But when the competition wound down, they had reaped a number of awards in a competition that involved at least 10 departments, including Raleigh’s.

GOP picks Dee Sams for District 2 contest
A Franklinton woman who has worked behind the scenes to support area causes and leaders will now be at the front of her own campaign to be the county’s next District 2 Commissioner.
The Executive Committee of the Franklin County Republican Party chose Dee Sams to be the GOP’s candidate for the Franklinton area seat.

L’burg budget drops capacity fees
With no debate and after hearing from only one resident, the Louisburg Town Council unanimously adopted its budget for the 2012-13 fiscal year Monday night after making one minor change from the version that emerged from a recent budget workshop.
Acting on a recommendation from town manager Mark Warren, the board agreed to completely eliminate “capacity fees” for water and sewer from residential projects both in and adjacent to the town.

Deadline looms for proposed park
So far, Franklin County property owners have submitted about 10 properties to be reviewed for a potential county park.
They have another two weeks to beat the deadline.
The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board has set a June 30 deadline to receive submissions from anyone interested in turning a plot of land into a county park.

SOME GREETING! One might think that when a business moves back into town, bringing skilled jobs and tax revenue, it might receive a hearty and positive greeting – maybe even a little encouragement – not here in Louisburg apparently, however.
The fine folks that operate Mullis Millworks recently decided to move back to the ‘Burg from a five-year foray in Youngsville and are now located in the old Joyner Manufacturing building on Bickett Boulevard and are open for business.

Oh, come on now Mr. Tatum, that’s a bit much even for an interim town administrator who is new to the Franklin County political arena.
For the record, we are not backing down one iota from our contention that negotiating the sale of Youngsville’s utilities to Franklin County out of the public’s scrutiny amounted to secret meetings!
