No sooner had the sounds of the Bunn Christmas parade faded out than the reality set in: The local Christmas parades are over, the decorations are up and lit and the big day is just days away.
In case you haven't been paying attention, Christmas is Monday.
As in NEXT Monday so time is short to get that last-minute shopping completed, those gifts wrapped and start baking a "few" (?) cookies to leave out for the jolly old gent from the North Pole who will be making his rounds on Sunday night.

Anyone who knows me knows I have a stock response when it comes to public service:

This past Monday, Louisburg's Emma Stewart got her flowers and her moment, being recognized by the governing board and the community for 30 frickin' years of public service.

Dear editor:
I am growing tired of the movement to completely do away with fossil fuels. People will travel on airplanes and motor vehicles, all powered by petroleum products, to demonstrate against the use of these products. Go figure.

LOUISBURG -- A Wake Forest woman has been charged with two counts of felony death by motor vehicle, and more charges are pending in a November wreck that claimed two lives.
Jennifer Baker Pearce, 43, was charged with the two counts of felony death by motor vehicle, plus driving while impaired, driving while license revoked, driving left of center and not wearing a seat belt.

LOUISBURG -- Sunday's heavy storm overwhelmed the county's wastewater system, spilling more than 16,500 gallons of sewage.
According to county staff, Franklin County Public Utilities experienced a discharge of untreated wastewater at the Youngsville Regional Pump Station.
The discharge was the result of heavy rain on December 17.

LOUISBURG -- Louisburg police arrested a man on drug and gun charges.
According to authorities, the incident was alleged to have happened in the 800 block of Bickett Boulevard just before 10 a.m. on Dec. 18.
Jeffrey Ellis Perry II, 31, was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, maintaining a vehicle for the sale of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and carrying a concealed gun.

Stanley Dunston was honored on Dec. 8, at Rustic Building Supply's Christmas dinner. Jimmy and Linda Cottrell presented him with a Certificate of Appreciation for his 50 years of dedication, hard work and commitment to Rustic Building Supply. He started on Nov. 12, 1973 and said he's not retiring but will continue working part time.

BUNN -- These guys are good -- and we're not just talking about the starting lineup.
Northern Nash -- the preseason favorite in the Big East Conference boys basketball standings -- has displayed its vast talent and endless depth in the early portion of the 2023-24 campaign.

BUNN -- Even though it's not even Christmas yet, the Match of the Year in the Big East Conference wrestling standings might have taken place last Wednesday at the Bunn Dome.
Host Bunn has controlled the league over the past two campaigns, winning both seasons en route to taking the Class 2-A East Regional title before competing in the Class 2-A State Championship contest.

BUNN -- Considering the fact that the clubs had posted a combined 0-9 record coming in, one group was going to earn a much-needed feel-good victory last Friday when Northern Nash traveled to Bunn for a Big East Conference girls basketball matchup.
And that team would be the Northern Nash Lady Knights, who surged ahead in the opening stanza of action and never looked back en route to defeating the homestanding Ladycats by a 45-21 total at the historic Bunn Dome.

FRANKLINTON -- Everything has gone to play this winter to date for the Franklinton Lady Rams in the always-competitive Big East Conference girls basketball standings.
Expected to be a contender for league supremacy, Franklinton has lived up to that billing with a 7-1 overall record to go with a 2-0 mark in the East.

HOOPS KING. The Louisburg High School boys basketball team has started the 2023-24 campaign in spectacular fashion as Coach Michael Sheldon's club boasts a 5-2 overall record to go with a 2-0 league worksheet in its first season in the Northern Lakes Athletic Conference. Louisburg has registered victories over Northwest Halifax, Falls Lake Academy, Bunn, Vance County and Oxford Webb.
