LOUISBURG -- Louisburg College women’s soccer coach Andy Stokes spent considerable time working on a new formation for his club’s rematch against perennial Region X power Cape Fear Community College.
LC had lost to Cape Fear in convincing fashion earlier in the year, so Stokes thought it was imperative to throw a different strategy toward the Lady Sea Devils during Wednesday’s rematch at Cameron Field on the LC campus.
In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Franklin Regional Medical Center will partner with national publication, Shape magazine, to host a Pilates for Pink class on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at the National Guard Armory in Louisburg.

A Franklinton High School teacher was suspended with pay amid allegations that he assaulted a student.
The 17-year-old student’s parents, Shawonda and Ellysses Noel, took out warrants on Oct. 11, alleging that A.J. Piper grabbed their son and pushed and shoved him up against a wall.
Franklinton police served the warrant on charges of misdemeanor simple assault on Wednesday.

A man who was sentenced to life in prison on charges that he killed his estranged wife will soon be free.
In April 2009, a jury found Robert Lee Pastuer guilty of killing Narskelsky Pastuer.
Last July, a state Appellate Court overruled the decision, arguing that local prosecutors did not meet the burden of proof necessary to convict.

County commissioners will be asked on Monday to purchase land for a park to fulfill a Louisburg man’s dying wish.
Edgar Owens died in January 2010, leaving behind an estate that included $800,000 for the county to buy land for a park, develop a pond and maintain the property.

A Franklinton woman was killed Friday afternoon in a head-on collision.
Franklinton police confirmed that Joyce Roberts died in the wreck on N.C. 56 at about 1 p.m.
Roberts’ nephew is on the town’s fire department and also serves on Granville County’s EMS, officials said.
“She always helped out in the community,” said Police Chief John Green. “She was one of the first people that helped support National Night Out.”

Fifty years ago last week, the USS North Carolina was towed to its final berth in Wilmington, the culmination of three years of dreaming, planning, fundraising and hurdles. More than one hundred thousand people showed up on a cold, rainy October day to watch the famed World War II battleship come up the Cape Fear River.
In an effort to promote traffic safety around North Carolina schools, school buses and school bus stops, the Highway Patrol will conduct “Operation Stop Arm” the week of Oct. 17-21. The operation will be conducted from 6 a.m. Monday, Oct. 17, through Friday, Oct. 21. A press event will be held in Raleigh at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds on Monday, Oct. 17, announcing the operation.
A Blessing Inc. in Franklin County has been selected by NC Beautiful to receive a special beautification prize of 54 azaleas for use in the group’s 2011 Beautification projects. The award is part of NC Beautiful’s 26th annual Azalea Celebration, which rewards North Carolina community groups for improving their communities through creative landscape projects.

If you do, it would be of great interest to officials with the Granville County Library System. They are looking to fill a gap in the library’s collection of Granville County newspapers.
Specifically, they hope to turn up issues of the Oxford Public Ledger published between 1947 and 1967.
Franklin Regional Medical Center will host its annual Ladies Night Out event from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25 in the hospital’s outpatient waiting area. This is a free event, and all members of the community are invited to attend.
“Ladies Night Out is a staple event for the women in Franklin County, and we are excited to be hosting it again,” said Jason Proctor, president of Franklin Regional.
PFC Rashaun Pace-Evans recently graduated from Army Basic Training. He is now attending AIT at Fort Gordon, studying to become a B25 Information Technology Specialist.
