For those trying to stamp out domestic violence, it was particularly cruel that during Domestic Violence Awareness month, the Supreme Court ruled that a man convicted of killing his estranged wife would go free.
Rather than dwell on Robert Lee Pastuer’s freedom, those who gathered for Safe Space’s annual candlelight vigil remembered Narskelsky Pastuer and others like her who have been battered and bruised, and in the case of Mrs. Pastuer, killed by someone that at one time or another they trusted and loved.

Mediation deadline nears in water dispute
If Franklinton and Franklin County officials want to resolve a long-standing water dispute outside of court, time is running out.
Realizing that, both sides had pooled together possible dates for mediation and on Tuesday night, following a closed session, Franklinton officials forwarded Franklin County two dates to choose from — Nov. 3 or Dec. 1.

Remember when you were required to separate every little item before recycling?
Well, times are changing, and recycling is being simplified to make it easier for our citizens.
You can now mix certain items together, called “co-mingling,” which means that you can now put several different items into the same recycling container, explained Ed Shearin of the Franklin County Solid Waste Department.

Bluegrass concert to benefit stereotactic breast biopsy service in Franklin County
The Franklin County Breast Care Team is sponsoring a benefit Bluegrass concert Oct. 29 to raise money to keep stereotactic breast biopsy service in Franklin County.
The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Jones Performing Arts Center (JPAC) at Louisburg College.

Man to appear in court for domestic violence charges
A Franklin County man is scheduled to appear in court next month on domestic violence charges.
According to investigators and an arrest warrant, Jonathan Scott Ball, 31, removed a window air-conditioning unit to break into a woman’s home during the early morning hours of Oct. 2.
According to authorities, Ball and the woman had a past relationship.
