Much has been printed that did not give a true outline of what really took place in my opinion. Following is the outline of what did take place:
RALEIGH – I’m as fond of proverbs and folk wisdom as the next person. But I don’t think that “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” suffices as an agenda for health care reform, or that “penny wise, pound foolish” is a sufficient guide for managing one’s investment portfolio.
Recent News and Observer reports that UNC-TV accepted approximately $300,000 from The Golden Leaf Foundation and then produced programming boasting foundation accomplishments were met with disdain. The Winston-Salem Journal ran a critical editorial which concluded by saying, “North Carolina taxpayers, and the UNC system, didn’t create UNC-TV so it could run $300,000 infomercials about publicly funded agencies.”
Forty eight hours to remember forever, a week-end (May 14-16)) that will never be forgotten by many classmates. Friendships became alive once again and stories were told over and over. These were the experiences of some 40 to 50 women from the Meredith Class of 1970 who gathered in various places to celebrate their 40th class reunion.

FRANKLINTON -- Franklinton’s hopes for a long postseason run were squashed in almost an instant Wednesday.
With overtime looming, Carrboro struck with a bang-bang goal from Katie Gilmore with 5:32 remaining in the second half and went on to defeat the Lady Rams by a 3-2 margin in the third round of the Class 2-A Girls Soccer State Playoffs at the FHS Football Field.

CREEDMOOR -- Bunn came within one out of advancing from the first round of the Class 3-A Softball State Playoffs.
But it wasn’t meant to be as host South Granville rallied with two runs in the bottom of the 11th to edge the Ladycats by a 4-3 score in a back-and-forth matchup at the SGHS Softball Field.
Bunn, which was unable to hold the lead on two occasions, closed at 11-10 on the campaign.

FRANKLINTON -- Lindsay Dehart’s first season as head coach saw the Franklinton High School softball team continue to make progress toward the upper echelon of the Northern Carolina Conference.
The Lady Rams, with first baseman/backup pitcher Michelle Bailey as the lone senior, went 10-11 overall and qualified for the postseason.
ROCKY MOUNT -- North Carolina Wesleyan College will host its annual John Thompson Basketball Development Camps this summer.
Boys and girls ages 6-18 are welcome to participate.

RALEIGH -- The Franklinton Futbol 14-Under Boys Soccer Team reached the quarterfinals of the North Carolina Youth Soccer Association’s Singer Challenge State Cup.
The event was held the weekend of May 15-16 in Raleigh.

ZEBULON -- The Carolina Mudcats (18-22) concluded a five-game homestand on Wednesday night as they fell to the Jacksonville Suns (26-13) 4-3 at Five County Stadium in a Class AA Southern League baseball matchup.

I am writing concerning the District 3 Board of Education seat election results. Since John May had relinquished his seat to take Lucy Allen’s position as the District 49 seat in the N.C. House of Representatives, the Board of Education seat which was occupied by John May should have, without question, been given to Bobbie Richardson. She received the next highest number of votes.

Louisburg police arrested three juveniles they allege were involved in a plot to assault a Terrell Lane Middle School teacher.
The arrest came four days after officers confiscated two large hunting knives from one of the 13-year-old students involved.

FRANKLINTON — Police are investigating a shots fired call that provided a number of apparent witnesses, nearly a dozen shell casings and one shot-up car, but no one willing to talk.
Sgt. Wade Bulloch was on patrol at about 10:45 p.m. when he said he heard rapid gunfire coming from the area of Sterling Street.
Residents and visitors were treated to a taste of the country on Saturday and Sunday as part of the Franklin County Farm Foods & Crafts Tour & Local Food Festival & more tour. Ten Franklin County farms were on display, along with the foods, arts and crafts of local farmers and artisans. The goal of the tour, organizers said, was to connect people with agricultural opportunities in Franklin County. Franklin County commissioners took action Monday night that gives staff the authority to dispose of abandoned manufactured homes.
The county will be able to take advantage of a $40,000 grant that can be used to deconstruct, dispose and recycle materials from identified structures.

Commissioners agreed Mon-day night to move forward with a plan that could bring improved emergency communications to the county.
Commissioners and staff have a long history of trying to procure better service, going back to the early 2000s when the county spent $700,000 to upgrade its radio communications system to address radio and pager dead spots within the county.
