FT. WASHINGTON, MD - Funeral services for John Oliver “Ollie B” Fogg, formerly of Louisburg, who died Wednesday, May 19, 2010, will be conducted at noon today (Wednesday, May 26) at Mitchell Baptist Church, with the Rev. Daniel Lillie officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
FRANKLINTON - Pauline Cooper Ayscue, 86, died Sunday, May 23, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, May 26) in the chapel of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, Franklinton Chapel, 504 E. Mason St., Franklinton, with the Rev. David Averette presiding. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
LOUISBURG – Gary Lee Fuller, 41, died Sunday morning, May 23, 2010 at Duke University Medical Center. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 29, in the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home. Burial will follow in New Bethel Baptist Church cemetery.
RALEIGH - Nannie H. Letchworth, 81, died Sunday, May 23, 2010 at her home. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, May 26) at Longview Baptist Church in Raleigh. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held at Montlawn Memorial Park.
CASTALIA - Johnny Ray Ayscue, 49, died Saturday, May 22, 2010. He was born April 30, 1961 in Nash County. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, May 26) in the chapel of Cornerstone Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dal Coppedge, the Rev. Danny James and the Rev. Robbie Piper officiating. Burial will follow at the Ayscue/Bobbitt Cemetery at the family’s home. The family will receive visitors at the home following the graveside service.
LAURINBURG-Ollie M. Wharton, 85, formerly of Franklinton, died May 24, 2010. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 27, in Fairview Cemetery, Franklinton.
LOUISBURG – Bobby Brewer Allen, 82, of Centerville, went to be with the Lord on Monday morning.
LOUISBURG – Charles Linzy “Billy” Bowden, 77, of Louisburg, went to be with his Lord May 22, 2010 after losing his battle to cancer.
In observance of School Library Media Month and National Poetry Month, the Franklinton High School Media Center staff sponsored a school-wide Poetry Contest to promote the creative writing and reading of poetry.
Nearly 100 students submitted poems, and three winners were chosen with several poems receiving honorable mention.

BUNN -- Leonard Allen’s work is not done as the head baseball coach at Bunn High School.
Not even close.
Which is why Allen isn’t taking much of a break following his initial campaign at Bunn, which closed with a 7-2 loss at Pittsboro Northwood in the opening round of the Class 2-A State Playoffs.

FRANKLINTON -- Before the season, Franklinton’s Deran Coe had to wonder about the future of his girls soccer program.
After all, the Lady Rams were a senior-dominated team led by standouts Amanda Knapp and Shaylyn Poppe, both of whom would sign with Division I colleges.
Deran Coe was sitting in his office Monday at the school gymnasium, putting together the final touches of the Franklinton Athletic Awards Ceremony, which was going to be held later that night.
He heard a volleyball hitting against the wall, so he looked out the door of his office.
And there was Megan Carper, continuing to work on her skills.
CHATTANOOGA, TENN. -- Corey Smith capped a five-run Chattanooga ninth inning with a game-ending grand slam to catapult the host Lookouts past the Carolina Mudcats 6-4 at AT&T Field on Sunday afternoon in a Class AA Southern League baseball showdown in the Volunteer State.
The 2010 Bunn Coach-Pitch Select Team put together a remarkable 18-1 record this spring. In April, Bunn competed in the Triangle Select League Preseason Showcase in Smith and went 4-0. During the weekend of May 15-16, Bunn went undefeated in the End of Season TSL Tournament in Wendell. The squad rapped out 413 hits and scored 284 runs for the campaign.
LOUISBURG -- Louisburg College will host an All-Skills Baseball Camp from July 12-15 at picturesque Frazier Field on the LC campus.
Cost is $100 per person. There will be two sessions:
• 9 a.m.-noon for ages 6-12
• 1-4 p.m. for ages 13-18
GREENVILLE -- Senior Kyle Roller picked a great time to record his 200th career RBI pushing home the game-winning run in the seventh inning to help East Carolina University to an 8-6 win over Houston on Saturday afternoon in baseball action at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium on the ECU campus.
CHAPEL HILL -- Fayetteville will be the new host city for the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Eastern Regional basketball tournament, starting with the 2010-11 season.
Davis Whitfield, executive director of the NCHSAA, made the official announcement on Monday.

LOUISBURG - Edith Dennis Gilliam, 90, died Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at Hillside Nursing Center. Cryptside services were held Friday, May 21, at Lancaster Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Extension Agent Will Strader is leaving Franklin County to return to his roots.
Strader came from Caswell County in June 2006 to help Franklin County farmers cultivate their gardens, manage their crops, timber, ponds and wildlife.

Sgt. Wade Bulloch responded to Sterling Street the evening of May 14 after hearing shots being fired.
