FRANKLIN, VA — Sidney Franklin Faulkner, Jr., 78, supported by his loving family and friends, departed this life peacefully June 7, 2010 at Southampton Memorial Hospital.  Born in Franklin County, NC to the late Lelia Hale and Sidney Franklin Faulkner, he was a former resident of Henderson, NC, and was retired as an auditor for the retail clothing store industry.  He was a member and former deacon of Mountain Grove Baptist Church in Alert. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Lancaster Funeral and Cremation Services, with the Rev. Bill Wallace officiating.

Terrell Lane gets new computer lab
It’s amazing the difference 21 computers can make. Rather than going to the lab once or twice a month due to availability, Terrell Lane Middle School eighth-grade students can now venture to the lab multiple times a week.
The nice part about the new lab is that it was built from existing resources. Parent Teacher-Student Organization President Faye Weiner inquired with the Franklin County Schools’ technology about using some existing old computers to create a lab.

Allen Gibson, a senior in psychology at N.C. State, was chosen from a field of 930 applicants to participate in the 2010 N.C. State Government Internship Program through the Youth Advocacy and Involvement Office.

CHATTANOOGA, TENN.  -- A four-run second inning propelled the Chattanooga Lookouts past the Carolina Mudcats 10-7 at AT&T Field on Sunday afternoon in a Class AA Southern League baseball showdown.
Carolina (25-32) established a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Lookouts batted around in the second against starting pitcher Alexander Smit (L, 1-5) for a 4-2 lead.

Louisburg has budget workshop
The Louisburg town council got its first look at a proposed 2010-11 budget Thursday night during a workshop held at town hall — and they quickly found some things to like in the document.
The budget, prepared mostly by Town Manager Mark Warren and Finance Director Sean Medlin, requires no increase in property taxes, electric rates or sewer rates, although it reflects an increase of about $400,000 in total spending.

Home invasion/ murder suspects granted bonds
A handful of defendants in a home invasion murder were granted bonds this week.
Franklin County sheriff’s deputies arrested Damien Lamont Crudup, 20, of Kittrell; Antavious Green, 18, and Jemel Davone Bullock, 24, both of Henderson; Taron Vershon Reed, 19; Damian Jaron Evans, 18; and Denalle Dontrell Anderson, 23, all of of Oxford; and Thomas Reed, 39,  shortly after finding Anthony Perry dead from a March 16 shooting.
