LOUISBURG - Robert "Bobby" Nathaniel Ayscue, Jr., 68, of Louisburg, died
Wednesday afternoon. Bobby was a son of the late Robert Nathaniel and Mary Lou Abbott Ayscue, Sr. and a native of Franklin County. Bobby was a member of Liberty Christian Church and an Army Special Forces veteran and an Air Force retiree.

Franklin County Animal Control has reported its second rabies case of 2007. The initial call came in Monday morning that there had been a raccoon acting incoherently at Alexia Moore’s residence at 2017 Highway 56 East, AC Director Graham Stallings said.

A local orthopaedic surgeon has introduced the web’s most complete textbook of orthopaedics. Dr. C.R Wheeless III, who has offices in Louisburg, Henderson and Wake Forest and also heads up Franklin Regional Medical Center’s Orthopaedics Division, started the comprehensive online medical textbook in 1996 for his honors thesis at Duke University School of Medicine, and in 2004 he donated the rights to the book to the university.
KNIGHTDALE - Herbert "Herb" Garland Parrish, 65, died Wednesday, July 4, 2007 at his home. A memorial service was conducted Friday, July 6, at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel in Knightdale, with the Rev. Raeford Wiggins officiating. Military honors were provided by the United States Air Force.
WAKE FOREST - Handy Black Jr., 65, died Monday, July 2, 2007 at Rex Healthcare in Raleigh. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 8, at New Bethel Baptist Church in Rolesville. Burial will follow in the church cemetery
He was born in Wake County to the late Handy Black Sr. and Betty M. Jeffreys.
ZEBULON - Thelma Virginia Vick Perry, 79, died Wednesday, July 4, 2007. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today (Saturday, July 7) at Stokes Chapel Baptist Church. Interment will be in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens.
Viewing will be today (Saturday) from 12 to 1 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
WENDELL - Oris Calvin Pearce, 63, died Wednesday, July 4, 2007 at Rex Healthcare. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today (Saturday, July 7) at Beulah Christian Baptist church cemetery, 8225 Mitchell Mill Road, Zebulon. The family will receive relatives and friends following the graveside service.
CLAYTON - William "Bill" R. Gilbert Jr. died Tuesday, July 3, 2007. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. today (Saturday, July 7) at First Baptist Church in Clayton, followed by a graveside service at Maple Springs Baptist Church in Louisburg at 3 p.m.
YOUNGSVILLE - Christine May Hill, 92, formerly of Youngsville, died Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at Mayview Convalescent Center in Raleigh. Funeral services were conducted Friday, July 6, at Flat Rock Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gary McNair officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
ZEBULON - Glenning Robert "Bob" Scharf Jr., 74, of Pilot died Sunday, July 1, 2007. A memorial service will be conducted at 5 p.m. today (Saturday, July 7) in the chapel of Cremation Society of the Carolinas, 2205 E. Millbrook Road, Raleigh, with the Rev. J. P. Johnson officiating.
FRANKLINTON - Robert Lee Johnson, 72, died Thursday, June 28, 2007 at Duke Health Raleigh Hospital, Raleigh. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, July 3, in the Franklinton High School Gymnasium in Franklinton, with the Rev. Yvonne Beasley officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery, Franklinton.
LOUISBURG - Funeral services for John Owen Eaton Sr., 76, who died Tuesday, July 2, 2007, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, at First Baptist Church of Louisburg. Open visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, at Richardson Funeral Home in Louisburg.
SPRING HOPE - Cescile Turner Harris, 84, died Thursday, July 5, 2007. Graveside services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 8, at Duke Memorial Baptist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.

EPSOM — Heroes are hard to come by these days.
Fortunately for Tiffany Wynne, a rising senior at Louisburg High School, there are still a few around.
On Saturday, June 23, Powell Wilkins, an Oxford firefighter who volunteers at the Epsom Fire Department, pulled Tiffany from the burning wreck of her car literally seconds before the entire vehicle was engulfed in flames.
