During his days at Louisburg High, Arrington became the school’s all-time leading rusher -- along with one of the state’s top rushers in history. Following a bad experience with a junior college in Kansas that had given Arrington some false promises, he refused to quit and instead ended up at Division II powerhouse Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tenn.

Joe was a retired cabinetmaker of 30 years for Caro-Craft Furniture Company (a division of Coastal Lumber Company) and a U.S. Navy veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a charter member of Englewood Baptist Church and was a loving, caring, and devoted father to his daughter, Angela.

Hope Baptist congregation moves out
YOUNGSVILLE — A church congregation moved out of its home for the last five years Monday, putting an end to a dispute that involved a house of worship, a civic group and, at one time, Town Hall.
The Hope Baptist Church congregation voted unanimously on Sunday to leave the old Youngsville Christian Church location on North College Street and move in with another, unnamed church in the area.

Volunteers in Medicine auction raises awareness

Joyner and others participated in a silent auction held by the Franklin County Volunteers in Medicine at Art Du Jour in Louisburg as part of festivities for Cover the Uninsured Week. The auction raised $2,764. The money will be used to help the volunteer group with operating its free clinic in Louisburg, which has been seeing patients since January of 2005. Volunteers in Medicine Executive Director Beverly Kegley said the auction will become an annual event and fundraiser.

Wreck on Bickett Boulevard
TWISTED METAL. This wreck at the intersection of Bickett Boulevard and Bunn Road in Louisburg resulted in four minor injuries Monday. According to a report by Louisburg Police Officer A. Holtz, Jennifer Teeter, 27, of Castalia was heading north on Bickett Boulevard and ran a red light and crashed into a vehicle driven by Malissa Dean, 34, of Louisburg. The crash at 5 p.m. caused Dean’s car to spin around in the intersection. Teeter was charged with running a red light. Dean had three passengers.
