LOUISBURG - Willis Winfield Nash, 83, of Louisburg, died Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at his home. Funeral services were conducted Friday at 2:00 p.m. from Louisburg Baptist Church, with Dr. Reggie Rushing officiating. Burial followed in Lancaster Memorial Park. A Georgia native, Mr. Nash came to North Carolina in 1949 as a dealer for International Paper Company.

BUNN — With veterans Jimmy Tanner, D.J. Scott and Brandon Strickland on the staff, pitching wasn’t expected to be a problem this season for the Bunn High School baseball team. Bunn’s rotation has lived up to expectation, but the Wildcats’ bats have disappeared during some of the club’s most important contests of the spring.

Jeremy Arrington is truly one of Franklin County’s greatest success stories -- on and off the football field. During his days at Louisburg High, Arrington became the school’s all-time leading rusher -- along with one of the state’s top rushers in history. Following a bad experience with a junior college in Kansas that had given Arrington some false promises, he refused to quit and instead ended up at Division II powerhouse Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tenn.

LOUISBURG -- Andrew Blackburne tried to play Mr. Nice Guy, especially since it a feel-good Senior Night for his Louisburg High School girls soccer team.
But midway through a sluggish first half, the usually low-key Blackburne had seen enough.

HENDERSON -- Mass graduation losses have decimated the Bunn High School girls track and field squad over the past several years. But the Ladycats always seem to have the ability to reload and dominate once again, especially in the Northern Carolina Conference standings.
LOUISBURG -- The Louisburg High School golf squad wrapped up regular season action with a pair of impressive victories this week.
Thursday at Bull Creek, the Warriors posted a score of 320, compared to 372 for Franklinton and 381 for Rocky Mount Prep.
WINSTON-SALEM - Eleanor Vann Rose Booke died Tuesday, April 24, 2007. A private family graveside service was held Friday, April 27, at Forsyth Memorial Park, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Salem Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jack Yarbrough officiating.
ROCKY MOUNT, NC - JOSEPH “JOE” EARL WOOD, 75, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2007, surrounded by family. He was born in Franklin County, January 26, 1932, to the late General Lee and Lola Shearin Wood. Joe was a retired cabinetmaker of 30 years for Caro-Craft Furniture Company (a division of Coastal Lumber Company) and a U.S. Navy veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a charter member of Englewood Baptist Church and was a loving, caring, and devoted father to his daughter, Angela.
KITTRELL - Josephine Catlett Strickland, age 89, a resident of 200 Smith Rd., died peacefully Sunday, April 29, 2007 at her home.
COATS - Clifford Owen Regan Sr., 64, died Saturday, April 28, 2007 at Duke Raleigh Regional Hospital. Funeral services were Tuesday, May 1, at Coats Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jesse Mooney officiating. Burial followed in the Williams family cemetery, Coats.

MOBILE, ALA. - Emma Margaret Moore Catlett Rex passed away after a long illness on April 25th in Mobile, Alabama. She was 85.

YOUNGSVILLE — A church congregation moved out of its home for the last five years Monday, putting an end to a dispute that involved a house of worship, a civic group and, at one time, Town Hall.
The Hope Baptist Church congregation voted unanimously on Sunday to leave the old Youngsville Christian Church location on North College Street and move in with another, unnamed church in the area.

The Board of Education is thinking about its past to see the future.
The full board attended a Facilities Committee meeting Monday night, discussing how to go about revisiting a school construction bond referendum to satisfy $90 million in needs.

Joyner and others participated in a silent auction held by the Franklin County Volunteers in Medicine at Art Du Jour in Louisburg as part of festivities for Cover the Uninsured Week. The auction raised $2,764. The money will be used to help the volunteer group with operating its free clinic in Louisburg, which has been seeing patients since January of 2005. Volunteers in Medicine Executive Director Beverly Kegley said the auction will become an annual event and fundraiser.

The county has experienced explosive growth in public utility customers and the department’s director has requested staff to keep up.
In April alone, Bryce Mendenhall said, the county has added 58 new water customers — a record.
TWISTED METAL. This wreck at the intersection of Bickett Boulevard and Bunn Road in Louisburg resulted in four minor injuries Monday. According to a report by Louisburg Police Officer A. Holtz, Jennifer Teeter, 27, of Castalia was heading north on Bickett Boulevard and ran a red light and crashed into a vehicle driven by Malissa Dean, 34, of Louisburg. The crash at 5 p.m. caused Dean’s car to spin around in the intersection. Teeter was charged with running a red light. Dean had three passengers.
LINDEN - Robert Everton Wood, 57, died Saturday, April 28, 2007 at Haymount Rehabilitation & Nursing Center. A memorial service was conducted Sunday, April 29, at Hair’s Chapel Pentecostal Church, Linden. Burial will be at a later date.
LOUISBURG - Funeral services for Evangelist Ethel Ward, 95, who died Saturday, April 28, 2007, will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at Mt. Hebron Holiness Church, with Evangelist Joseph Leonard officiating. Burial will follow in the M.H. Jones cemetery.
FRANKLINTON - Edward Grey Rogers, 101, died Friday, April 27, 2007 in Louisburg Nursing Center. Graveside services were conducted Tuesday, May 1, at Fairview Cemetery in Franklinton.
NASHVILLE - Funeral services for Rosa Alston Foster, 66, who died Friday, April 27, 2007, were conducted Monday, April 30, at Bunn Chapel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Wayne Hines officiating. Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery.
YOUNGSVILLE - Josephine Holden Wiggins, 90, died Friday evening, April 27, 2007 at Hillside Nursing Center. Funeral services were conducted Monday, April 30, at Oak Level Christian Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
YOUNGSVILLE - Conley Nellis Pyatte, 58, died Saturday, April 28, 2007. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, May 1, at Harris Chapel Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
