The Franklin-Granville-Vance Partnership for Children has added new programs for the development of young children this fiscal year with help from additional funding from the state Legislature and the North Carolina Partnership for Children (NCPC). Several areas of need have been identified that will assist quality child care, parents, and grandparents in their efforts to help the youngest children be better prepared to succeed in school.

FRANKLINTON - Good teams take advantage of opponents’ mistakes, and Roanoke Rapids needed only one Monday during its Northern Carolina Conference matchup of titans at Franklinton.
Roanoke Rapids scored just once, but it was enough to push the Lady Jackets past FHS 1-0 in overtime in a well-played, defensive-oriented matchup between two quality girls soccer programs.

BUNN - Ashley Driver pitched a no-hitter last Friday -- and came within one batter of a perfect game -- to spark the Bunn Ladycats to a 10-0 home softball victory over Northern Carolina Conference rival Franklinton.
Driver, who whiffed 11 Lady Rams, allowed just one hit batsman as Bunn improved to 6-2 in the NCC, which is good enough for second place behind league leader Roanoke Rapids.

BUNN - One day after busing home from a weekend trip to New York, Louisburg’s Laura Lord delivered an apple of a performance Monday during the Lady Warriors’ rivalry showdown at Bunn.
Lord, a senior veteran, came through with four goals -- including the eventual winner with less than five minutes remaining -- as Louisburg edged the host Ladycats by a 4-3 margin in a Northern Carolina Conference girls soccer thriller on the BHS campus.

LOUISBURG - The Louisburg College fast-pitch softball team will return to the scene of some great memories this weekend.
LC will hit the road for Hartsville, S.C., which will once again be the site of the Region X Tournament. Last year in Hartsville, the Lady Hurricanes claimed the league championship, along with a spot in the national tournament.

Architects representing CVS have petitioned Louisburg to rezone land around a convenience store for a potential relocation. Architects out of Alpharetta, Ga., presented the town’s zoning administrator with plans to rezone land around the Kangaroo gas station at the corner of Bickett Boulevard and N.C. 56 from residential to business.

Church plans for its future
The Hope Baptist Church congregation is expected to soon decide its short-term plans. The Youngsville Woman’s Club bought the old Youngsville Christian Church last month, meaning that Hope Baptist members, who had rented the space for five years, will need to move when the club begins plans to turn the space into a town museum.

‘Turn-of-the-century’ concert set for May 5 at courthouse
On Saturday, May 5, the Concert and Symphonic Bands from Louisburg High School will perform in the 12th annual “Turn-of-the-Century” concert on the historic courthouse steps in downtown Louisburg. The concert will begin at 6 p.m. and should last about 45 minutes. Both bands will combine for the 1918 Sousa setting of the National Anthem, and the concert will conclude with both bands combining once again for the traditional school songs that have been a part of Louisburg for many years.
