Louisburg High School is host to Maria Fernanda Pezzotti, an exchange student from Cúcuta, Colombia. She came to Louisburg through the American Scholastic Associates International (ASAI) with an office in Babylon, N.Y. This organization is very well established (since 1992), with Arrival Evaluation, Mid Program Evaluation, and End of Program Evaluation.

Bell’s heroics propel Bunn to links crown
LOUISBURG -- Nick Bell’s jarred eagle on the par-4 seventh hole provided an appropriate exclamation point to Bunn’s Franklin County golf championship Thursday at Bull Creek. The Wildcats finished off the crown at the 36-hole event with 638 total strokes, compared to 671 for Louisburg and 755 for Franklinton.

Relay for Life dolls walked the walk in womanless beauty pageant
The competition, above, was fierce. The womanless beauty pageant raised more than $2,500 in just an hour’s time, event Co-chairman Linda Frederickson, far right, announcing at the pageant, said. The total is part of the $213,000 already collected for this year’s campaign. Frederickson said Monday the Relay’s goal of $225,000 this year should be met, if not exceeded. Hundreds of people from across the county participated in the weekend event, which kicked off with a survivors’ walk at 7 p.m. Friday and carried on throughout the night and into Saturday morning. Supporters walked the BHS track all night to symbolize a continual struggle against cancer. Whistlers celebrate 2007 championships
News that the International Whistlers Convention won’t be held again until 2009 was met by groans and hisses by many gathered inside the Louisburg College Auditorium hoping they’d get a chance again next year to hear some of the most melodic whistling in the world.
Convention organizers and volunteers hope that disappointment is galvanized in a way that the convention could resume on its annual basis.

Historical marker serves as reminder of shining legacy
Historians, area leaders and descendants gathered Monday afternoon to unveil a marker chronicling how a Louisburg man rose from slavery to become a legislator, publisher and leader.
“(John H. Williamson) is deserving of a marker,” said Michael Hill with the state Department of Cultural Resources, Historic Site Division. “He’s a man that Louisburg needs to be proud of.”
