Among the Rotary Foundation programs, the Group Study Exchange (GSE) represents their major efforts towards understanding and world peace.
This group approaches young professionals from different countries in order to show them various cultures, along with providing them the opportunity to experience new horizons.
Last month, the Rotary Club District 7710 of NC had a wonderful visit from the GSE 2005-2006, District 4590, based in Sao Paulo Interior, Brazil. The local Rotary Club was able to host them and exchange ideas. The purpose of their visit was to acquire knowledge that will be helpful in their professions, their communities, and to themselves.

FRANKLINTON — Town officials decided during a public hearing Thursday night that they would allow more public comment before adopting zoning changes that affect the town and its extra-territorial jurisdiction.
Sixteen cadets graduated May 17 from the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) course at Vance-Granville Community College. After passing the state certification exam, all 16 are authorized to work in any law enforcement department in North Carolina.
A Wood man was killed last month following a farm equipment accident. According to a Franklin County sheriff’s report, Linwood Richardson was doing some work on his property on N.C. Highway 561 and Collins Mills Road when, on an incline, the tractor rolled over.

The site selected by the Board of Education for the new high and elementary schools has some concerning issues, according to the county manager and his staff. The 114-acre property on N.C. Highway 56 and Fred Wilder Road, known as the Nassif site, was selected in April by the BOE as a suitable site for new schools that would serve the Youngsville and Franklinton areas.

Durham officials plan to appeal to the state Supreme Court a lower court’s ruling that its decision to collect impact fees was illegal. And Franklin County will continue supporting Durham and any other county’s ability to enact a fee that requires new development to pay for added school construction.
