Freshman academies could be coming to county high schools. The principals from Bunn, Franklinton and Louisburg high schools presented their tentative plans for freshman academies to the Curriculum and Instruction Committee of the Franklin County Board of Education on Thursday.

Coaches for every sport at Bunn High School had something to celebrate at this year’s athletic award ceremony. Many of the coaches announced that their respective teams had more success than ever.
LOUISBURG -- The Louisburg College Softball Clinics will be held throughout June at Sheilah R. Cotten Field.
LC head coach Don Gines will oversee the camp, which will feature staff members, along with current and former players.

BUNN -- Because of an injury, Mossette Heath missed the first three games of Bunn’s 2005 high school football season. Coincidence or not, the Wildcats lost each of those contests.
The Carolina Hurricanes will be heading to the lovely province of Alberta sometime next week for games three and four of the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Edmonton Oilers.
And I’m already here.
I scheduled my vacation to Banff and the Canadian Rockies for late May and early June, not knowing that the Hurricanes would be embarking on another incredible postseason run.
WOOD - Funeral services for Mr. Linwood “Lin” Richardson, 57, who died Tuesday, May 30, 2006, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 4, at Gillfield Baptist Church, with the Rev. Antonio Gregory officiating. Burial will follow in Perry’s Missionary Church cemetery.
FRANKLINTON - Commie B. Wilkes, 51, died Thursday morning, June 1, 2006 at her residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 3, in the chapel of Bright Funeral Home in Wake Forest, with Pastor Rick Finley officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Franklinton.
CASTALIA - Funeral services for Shaundra Grimes Dale, 37, who died Saturday, May 27, 2006, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, June 5, at Ocean Avenue Baptist Church in Jersey City, N.J., with the Rev. Keith Treadwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Graceland Memorial Park.
SPRING HOPE - Dalma Therman Edwards, 79, died Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at Avanta Nursing Home in Wilson. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 2, at First Baptist Church, Spring Hope, conducted by the Rev. Allen C. Allen.
WASHINGTON, DC - Funeral services for Vernell Jones, 81, of Washington, D.C., formerly of Franklin County, who died Monday, May 29, 2006, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 3, at Haywood Baptist Church, Rocky Ford Rd., Louisburg, with the Rev. Luther Coppedge officiating.

FRANKLINTON - Robert S. Pender, 64, died Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at Franklin Regional Medical Center in Louisburg. Services were conducted Tuesday, May 30, in the Cutchins Memorial Chapel in Franklinton, with the Rev. Mattie Crudup officiating.

FRANKLINTON - Mary Lane Lawrence, 64, died Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at her home. Celebration services were conducted Saturday, May 27, at Hawkins Chapel Baptist Church, Franklinton, with the Rev. Walter S. Taylor and the Rev. Earl Brewer officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
FRANKLINTON - Elsie Perry Cheatham, 70, died Saturday, May 20, 2006 at WakeMed in Raleigh. Services were conducted Friday, May 26, at Hawkins Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Franklinton, with the Rev. Walter S. Taylor officiating.
