Vikings Claim No. 1 Spot
FRANKLINTON -- Thanks to a head-to-head tie-breaker, the Northern Vance Vikings were able to earn the team championship last Saturday at the Red Ram Duals at Franklinton High School’s Gymnasium.
Northern Vance and Louisburg both went 4-1 overall, but the Vikings topped the Warriors during their match. NV was also upset against Kerr-Vance Academy.

Robin Faulkner, principal of Bunn High School, announces the Honor Roll for the 2010-11 first six-weeks grading period. To be named to the A Honor Roll, a student must make no grade lower than 93. To be named to the A-B Honor Roll, a student must make no grade lower than 85.

STANHOPE -- Playing up one classification level and with a shorthanded roster, the Franklinton Lady Rams were unable to effectively match up Tuesday night against the host Southern Nash Ladybirds.
Southern, in its season opener, broke open a tight game in the third period and went on to defeat Franklinton by a 33-25 margin at the SNHS Gymansium.

Hicks pleads to misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, gets probation
A Rocky Mount man avoided jail time this week, pleading guilty to a lesser charge of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle for his role in a 2009 automobile crash.
Ronald Bruce Hicks, 65, made the plea Tuesday afternoon in Franklin County Superior Court, accepting responsibility for his role in the death of Jessica Lynn Dixon.

Franklin County sheriff’s deputies are looking for suspects who shot into a Pilot home this week.
Bunny Williams said he doesn’t know if investigators will ever find the perpetrators, but he’s definitely glad the bullet didn’t find him or his wife on Wednesday afternoon.

Franklin County sheriff’s deputies arrested a White Level woman this week described by the community as a terror.
Deputies arrested Phyllis Hazel Courtney, 62, on Wednesday after alleging she walked onto Alton Leonard’s T Model Jones Road property and began hitting him with a large wooden stick.

County’s jobless rate decreases
The number of Franklin County workers grew slightly last month, decreasing the unemployment rate by 3-tenths of a percent.
Franklin County joins 65 other counties that saw the number of employed workers increase. The county’s unemployment rate dipped to 8.7 percent in October.

Gilliam to represent county in Veteran’s Park
A World War II veteran and long-time resident was selected to represent Franklin County in the North Carolina Veteran’s Park that will open this coming summer in Fayetteville.
On Monday, an artist will cast a mold of Clifford Gilliam’s hand — which will be on display with 99 other veterans representing every county in the state at the memorial park.

A former Louisburg insurance agent is slated to appear in Franklin County District Court next year on charges of embezzlement.
A criminal investigator with the state Department of Insurance (DOI) arrested Judy W. Allen, 54, in October, charging her with one count of agent embezzlement.
