FRANKLINTON -- The Franklin County Early College High School class of 2022 was doing the most.
"Let me tell you," Early College High School Principal Erica Shoulders-Royster said during the school's May 26 graduation, "my babies worked hard.
"It was five years for some of them. It was four years for some of them, but not only did they graduate with a high school diploma, but an associate's degree.

Livin' in the Burg seems likely to get more expensive!

LOUISBURG -- It's going to be more expensive to live in or operate a business in Louisburg in coming months assuming the town adopts its proposed budget as it now stands.
In a nutshell, the budget will raise the cost of electricity by 5 percent.
For the "average" residential customer that amounts to about $7.59 per month on the electric-only portion of their town bill.

LOUISBURG -- To thunderous applause, the Franklin County Board of Commissioners agreed to recreate its animal services board -- answering a plea that animal advocates made more than three years ago.
In January 2019, residents, animal advocates and rescuers asked county commissioners to make improvements in shelter operations.

Franklinton project a 'go' despite objections

LOUISBURG -- Franklinton and a Raleigh homebuilding company earned the ability to proceed with a home, school and commercial development project, barring an appeal.
In December, attorneys representing residents of a north Franklinton subdivision filed a lawsuit, alleging that a 600-home, mixed use development approved by Franklinton commissioners in October would have a detrimental impact on their nearby homes -- disrupting their quality of life and damaging the environment.

LOUISBURG -- The Franklin County Board of Elections agreed to have only one site and maintain regular hours during the early voting period of the primary runoff election.
However, since the vote was not unanimous, the State Board of Elections will be tasked with establishing the final plan.

CASTALIA -- The Northeast Franklin Revitalization Coalition is hosting a business showcase on Monday, continuing its efforts to bolster business and entrepreneurship in that sector of the county.
The group held its first showcase in July 2018, giving area businesses a chance to share their story and wares with members of the coalition and others interested in the vitality of northeastern Franklin County.
