Farmers market open Fridays
The Franklin County Farmers Market is open Fridays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Shannon Village Shopping Center, Louisburg. Vine-ripened tomatoes, butter beans, purple hull peas, bell peppers, watermelons, cantaloupes, peaches, farm-fresh eggs, pasture-raised pork, beef, chicken, lamb and local honey are available as well as fresh-cut flowers, plants, unique crafts and handmade soaps.

LHS Class of 1985 plans reunion
All members of the Louisburg High School Class of 1985 are invited as the class celebrates its 40th reunion, a three-part event, the weekend of Sept. 26 to 28, in Wake Forest.

GOP meeting slated
The Franklin County Republican Party will hold its monthly covered dish dinner meeting at 6:30 p.m. for the dinner and meeting following at 7 p.m., Thursday. Aug. 14, at the Youngsville Community Building, 115 East Main Street.
All Republicans are invited. Hot dogs and drinks will be served, covered dishes would be appreciated.

Miracle League signups open
Registration is officially open for the Fall 2025 season of the Miracle League of Franklin County.
Player Registration:
If you or your child would like to participate as a player sign up for the Fall 2025 player registration
Buddy Registration:
If you're interested in volunteering as a buddy to support players on the field sign up to be a volunteer or buddy
Registration closes Monday, Aug. 25.
Opening Day is Saturday, Sept. 6.
Final game and Home Run Derby is Saturday, Nov. 8.

Fall gardening classes planned
The Franklin County Cooperative Extension is planning a series of fall gardening classes. Classes will be conducted 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Sept. 3: "Purchasing, Planting and Pruning Landscape Plants" at Youngsville Library, 218 US-1A HWY S., Youngsville.
Sept. 10: "Purchasing, Planting and Pruning Landscape Plants " at Franklin County Cooperative Extension Annex, 103 S. Bickett Blvd., Louisburg.
Sept. 17: "Purchasing, Planting and Pruning Landscape Plants " at Bunn Library, 610 Main St, Bunn.

Bunn Lions plan golf tourney
The Bunn Cert Lions Club is planning a golf tournament fund raiser -- and needs 23 teams to register in advance for the event. The tourney is slated for 8 a.m. Sept. 27 at the River Golf Course, 170 Clear Water Road, Louisburg.

County's holiday schedule
The county has announced it schedule for the Sept. 1 Labor Day holiday.
All branches of the county library will be closed Saturday, Aug. 30 and Monday, Sept. 1.
All convenience centers will be open on their regular 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. schedule on Monday, Sept. 1, and the solid waste transfer station will be open from 7 a.m. until 12 noon that day.
The county's airport will be open on Monday, Sept. 1.
All other Franklin County government offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 1.

CPR, first aid and AED classes
A free CPR, First Aid and AED training and certification opportunity will be conducted Thursday, Aug. 28 from 8 a.m. until noon in the Cooperative Extension Center Annex, 103 S. Bickett Blvd., Louisburg.
This lifesaving training is open to all members of the community, offering vital skills for responding to emergencies.
Sponsored by the North Carolina Tobacco Trust Fund Commission, the event aims to equip individuals with the confidence and knowledge to act quickly in medical emergencies. The course will cover basic CPR techniques for both adults and children, first aid skills and the use of AEDs to assist individuals experiencing cardiac arrest.

Pesticide applicators training
Private Pesticide Applicator Training will be conducted Thursday, Aug. 28, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Extension Center Annex, 103 S. Bickett Blvd., Louisburg.

Pre-planting small grains meeting
The N.C. Cooperative Extension is planning a Pre-Plant Small Grains meeting on Sept. 9, from 6 to 9 p.m., at the Cooperative Extension Annex, 103 S. Bickett Blvd., Louisburg. Topics will include pre-plant fertilizer, nitrogen management, weed control, disease management and more. Two hours of N, O, D, and X NCDA&CS pesticide recertification credits will be offered. Supper will be provided.
