Library's February
programs slated
The Baby & Me Storytime for pregnant or parenting teens has been moved to 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26 at Franklinton Library.
Interested in Franklin County history? You can join archaeologist Zachary Wzorek at 3 p.m. today, Thursday, Feb. 19, as he presents his work to excavate the Hurry Scurry Farm where a group of enslaved individuals was forcibly relocated during the Civil War. The plantation was once owned by by the Josiah Collins family. His presentation will be at the Louisburg library.

BBQ sale to benefit Boys, Girls Club
A barbecue plate sale to benefit Franklin County Boys and Girls Club is planned for 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 2 at Johnny's Barbecue in Louisburg.
The event is drive through only and plates are $12 each and will include barbecue pork, potato salad, cole slaw and hushpuppies.
A variety of homemade desserts also will be for sale.
Tickets are available from Blue Collie Coffee, Laura Terry, Rosemary Champion, Paige Sayles and the Franklin County Boys and Girls Club.

Birdwatchers plan meetings
The Franklin County Birdwatching Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25 at the Franklin County Cooperative Extension office, 103 South Bickett Blvd., Louisburg for their monthly meeting.
The topic will be "birding by ear," learning the calls and songs of birds native to Franklin county.
The club also will be having a bird walk on Saturday Feb. 21, beginning at 7:30 a.m. in Franklinton.

Civitan plans a Friendship Dance
The Cypress Creek Civitan Club has scheduled its annual Friendship/Special Needs Dance for 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 14.
The dance is free -- with pizza and refreshments provided. All exceptional children ages 10 and up and their family members are invited.
The dance will be held in the New Vision Building behind the Baptist Church, 205 E. Jewitt Avenue, Bunn.

Moose Lodge stew sale
The Louisburg Moose Lodge is planning a Brunswick Stew sale, take-out only, on Saturday, March 21. $10 per quart. Pick up from 1 to 4 p.m.

Perry's School project underway
The Perry's School Alumni Association is working to make the former Perry's High School of Centerville into a Community Center. The immediate goal is to restore the gym to make it available for a wide variety of activities from sports to community meetings, games, birthday parties, wedding receptions, reunions and many other activities.
Monetary donations, materials and labor are needed to reach the goal. Those wishing to help are asked to call 252-767-5817 or 919-853-2278. Donations may be mailed to Perry's School Alumni, P.O. Box 105, Louisburg. More information is available on the group's website: www.perrysschoolnc.com.

'Empty Bowls' fundraiser slated
A fund-raiser for Community Cares called Empty Bowls is being planned for 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 7. Empty Bowls is a grassroots movement used around the world to raise money for food-related charities to feed the hungry in their communities.
This event is for Community Cares, a group which addresses food insecurity of students in Franklin County Schools.
The event will be at the Louisburg Fire Department at 102 Wade Avenue, Louisburg, and will be part of the Franklin County Firehouse Chili Cook Off.
Tickets will be $15 for chili and a hand-thrown pottery bowl to keep. Chili only is $10, $5 for a child-size chili and kids five and under eat free. There also will be entertainment and raffles.

Grand Shanghai Circus rescheduled
The Grand Shanghai Circus, a spectacle featuring Chinese acrobatic, dance and other performance arts, has been rescheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at Louisburg College.
The performance had been scheduled earlier but was postponed because of inclement weather.
The Shanghai Circus is a family-friendly show suitable for all ages. Tickets are available online at www.jpacarts.com, or by calling the Louisburg College Box Office at (919) 497-3300, M-F, 1 to 5 p.m. All seats are reserved. Tickets for the January show will be honored for the new February date.

Miracle League gearing up for new season
It's that time again -- the Miracle League of Franklin County is gearing up for another season and Spring 2026 registration is officially underway.
The League is seeking registrations from players, buddies and volunteers. Registration closes on Feb. 21 -- and opening day of the season is March 14.
League officials said that "once registration closes, we start building teams, ordering uniforms, making play lists, and getting everything ready to make this season special for our families!"
Tom Flaherty, executive director, said that "Miracle League is bigger than baseball. It's about belonging. It's about confidence. It's about creating a place where every child can step onto the field, hear their name announced and feel like a star!
