DAN R. ELLIS
June 27, 1947 - April 21, 2026

LOUISBURG, NC -- Dan Roswell Ellis, 78, of Louisburg, passed away unexpectedly at his home, April 21, 2026.

Dan was born in Nash County to the late Leroy and Olga Denton Ellis. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Skylar Brantley.

Dan had a long career as a Construction Superintendent. He took time out to join Habitat for Humanity building trips in Mongolia, Macedonia, and Sri Lanka, which rewarded both his love of building and travel. In retirement, he enjoyed volunteering as a Scout leader, and with the Franklin County Democratic Party, as well as restoring an historic home.

He will be remembered for being a caring father and grandfather; for his sense of social justice; and for the stories he told of growing up on the family farm in Franklin County.

Dan is survived by his wife of 53 years, Charla Ellis; children Richard Ellis (fiance Misty Derringer) and Susan (Brandon) Morton; grandson Rylan Brantley; sisters Jean (Bob) Atwater and Mae (Mike) Holveck; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 305 N. Church Street, Louisburg, NC 27549 or to Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), P.O. Box 5030, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5030

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 9th at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall.

Arrangements are by Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory, Louisburg, www.stricklandfuneralhome.net.
