NANCY HAYES YARBOROUGH

LOUISBURG - Nancy Hayes Yarborough of Louisburg died July 29, 2016. Nancy was born in Franklin County on January 19, 1924 and was a daughter of Hugh Jones Hayes and Clafton Mundy Hayes. She married Edward Foster Yarborough February 8, 1948 and they were married 48 years. She was an accomplished pianist, organist and artist. Nancy won first place in the North Carolina Music Achievement Contest at age 12 and won superior or excellent ratings in State Piano Contests for all four years of high school. In 1942, she was voted "Most Talented" at Louisburg College.

A life-long member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, she served on the Vestry for nine years and was organist for over 35 years, beginning at age 14. For more than 75 years she played whenever or wherever needed for worship or funeral services and was organist for over 100 funerals and over 100 weddings. She was pianist for the Louisburg Lion's Club for 28 years.

Nancy's husband, parents, sisters Janet Hayes Best and Sue Hayes Ward, and nephew James Arthur Best III preceded her in death.

Nancy is survived by her son, William Henry Yarborough and wife Deborah of Alexandria, VA; two nieces, Nancy Best Cressman and husband George of Manchester, MO and Elizabeth Best Combs of Bradenton, FL; three great-nieces, one great-nephew; two great-great- nephews, their families, the Yarborough family and numerous treasured friends.

Funeral services were held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Louisburg, NC at 3:00 on Monday, August 1, 2016. Interment followed at Oakwood Cemetery with a reception that followed at St. Paul's Parish House.

The family received friends 7 - 8:30 p.m. on Sunday at Strickland Funeral Home, Louisburg.
