JULIUS B. LAYTON

RALEIGH - Julius Basel Layton, 85, died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017 at WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh. A funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, at Friendship Baptist Church, 5510 Falls of Neuse Road, Raleigh. Burial will follow the service at Raleigh Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 1:30 to 3:15 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

He was born Sept. 23, 1931 in Franklin County to the late Ernest Clinton Layton and Bessie Abernathy Layton. He worked in the family catering business for over 20 years after his retirement from NC State government. He was a charter member of Friendship Baptist Church and taught Sunday school for over 50 years.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald; sisters, Eleanor, Lucy, and Poppy.

Surviving: wife, Jennie Swanson Layton; daughter, Hope Moore (Devon); son, Ricky Layton (Debra); brothers, Buck (Clara) and Jimmy (Irene); and sisters, Marie Chadwick, Mavis Nelms, Sue Leonard (Darrel), Annette Roberson (Larry); one granddaughter; two grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friendship Baptist Church Building Fund or the Friendship Men For Missions.
