"LEN" LEONARD F. WESTER
July 28, 1953 - February 29, 2020

LOUISBURG - Leonard "Len" Forest Wester, 66, of Louisburg, died Saturday night.

Len was a son of the late Donald and Janet L. Wester.

Len is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Dorothy "Dot" P. Wester; daughters and sons-in-law, Cassie and Kyle Joyner; Natalie and Jason Farmer, all of Louisburg; sister, Hope Wester of Henderson; brother and sister-in-law, Barry and Anne Wester of Bath; grandchildren, Noah and Tenley Farmer; aunt and uncle, Alice and Ray Akkerman, all of Louisburg;.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday evening at Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory. Services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Franklin County 4-H, Franklin County Extension Center, 103 S. Bickett Blvd., Louisburg, NC 27549.

Len was a pillar in the community. He was Chairman of the Board for the White Level Fire Department, Chairman of the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Growers Association, a board member for United Tobacco Company, and a member of the North Carolina Tobacco Growers Association. He enjoyed being a part of something important and made sure his voice was heard.

On weekends he enjoyed riding around in peace, checking his cows or his crops. Then would come home and he and Dot would jump in his corvette and ride around enjoying each other's company. On Sunday's the family would come over for dinner and he would spend hours building block towers or racing matchbox cars with his grandchildren.

He loved a good game of poker and was as competitive as they come. He worked side by side with his loving wife on the farm for the past 16 years. He opened Wester Feed Service in 1978 and it is still a thriving feed store in the community. He graduated from Louisburg College with an Associate Degree in Business Management. He and his father Donald partnered on Wester Farms until Donald's retirement in 2006, where he took over full ownership of Wester Farms LLC with Dot by his side. He started a successful trucking company, Wester Farms Agricultural Transport in 2010, where he and his son-in-law worked together. In 2013, his other son-in-law, Jason, came aboard to the farm to help manage the crops and the day-to-day operations. His daughters were never far, and were always around when he and Dot needed a helping hand. He owned and operated Southeastern Swine Service (a successful hog operation) from 1975-1991. He was the first person to offer help to a friend in need. He loved to teach his children and grandchildren the importance of Agriculture and how to produce a sustainable crop. He enjoyed sitting around the feed store sharing old tales with his other local farmers. He grew up milking old cows, collecting eggs from his grandfather's farm, and handing leaves of tobacco to his momma for her to string. He was a farmer from day one.

Arrangements are by Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory, Louisburg, www.stricklandfuneralhome.net.
