Joyce Evelyn Joyner Hurst
April 16, 1932 - November 20, 2025

Roanoke Rapids, NC -- Joyce Evelyn Joyner Hurst, 93, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2025.

Joyce was born on April 16, 1932 and was preceded in death by her parents, Earnest and Ruth Joyner and her daughter, Peggy Jenkins.

She is survived by her children, Alvin Moss (Sandy) of Franklinton, NC; Stancil Moss (Sylvia "Bug") of Hampstead, NC; Ricky Martin (Sandy) of Roanoke Rapids, NC; and Vivian Goodman (Dan) of Bismarck, MO. She also leaves behind many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Joyce worked for many years at JP Stevens Cotton Mill, where she was known for her dedication and strong work ethic.

In her free time, Joyce enjoyed watching television--especially Jerry Springer, Judge Judy, and her soap operas. She adored her chihuahuas and had an incredible ability to care for everyone around her. Her humor, honesty, and warm heart made her unforgettable.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Franklin Oaks Nursing Home in Louisburg, NC for the compassionate and dignified care they provided throughout her stay. They are especially grateful to Angel, whose love, devotion, and consistent care meant more than words can express. Angel's presence brought comfort, joy, and companionship to Joyce and her kindness will always be remembered.

The family also thanks all friends and relatives who visited, called, and stayed connected. Your support and love brought comfort to Joyce and to her family.

Joyce will be remembered for her loving nature, her quick wit, and the steady presence she brought to her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held on Monday, November 24, 2025 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Askew Funeral & Cremation Services with Dr. Dennis W. Gregory, Sr. officiating.

Interment followed in Old Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

The family received friends one hour prior to the service on Monday at the Askew Funeral & Cremation Services.
