March is certainly determined to go out like a lion.
Mother Nature pulled one of her early spring switcheroos over last weekend, dropping temperatures from a balmy and above-average 85 degrees at mid-week to freezing or just below by Monday morning.
If that didn’t get everyone’s attention, we’re not sure what would!
GOOD MORNING: What a difference a week can make. The first of last week we were enjoying daytime temps in the upper 70’s to around 80 degrees only to be greeted by a mixture of light snow/sleet/rain and freezing temperatures once again early Monday morning as we were just getting into the process of bidding a not-so-fond, ado to Old Man Winter.
If I learned nothing else in school, I learned that I didn’t want to get paddled.
I surely remember the first time I got paddled in school.
I was in the third grade and running my mouth more than normal.
My teacher, Mrs. Grady, took me behind the coat closet and went to work on me.

Was the $6,040 returned to the county by attorney Johnny Williamson misplaced money found by former sheriff Pat Green or just a lawyer’s trick to attempt to put a positive spin on Green’s legal issues?
One of the budget proposals currently under consideration is a cut in North Carolina’s corporate tax rate from 6.9 to 4.9 percent. We are told the rationale for such a cut is to stimulate job creation. There may be some legitimate reasons for a corporate tax cut but job creation isn’t one of them.

Vance County authorities found a wrecked jeep hours after it was reported stolen from a Louisburg area home.
Andre Glenn reported the afternoon of March 25 that someone stole his 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
According to the report by Dep. W.J. Wiggins, the green sport utility vehicle was parked at Glenn’s Pine Cone Drive home the evening of March 24.

The Honorable I. Beverly Lake spoke at the 150th year anniversary of the raising of the First Confederate Flag at the Franklin County Courthouse on March 20.

BUNN -- Three trends continued and another may have started last Saturday at the annual The Franklin Times County Track and Field Championships at the Bunn High School Football Field.
Cedar Creek won the Boys Middle School Team Championship for the fifth straight year as the Jaguars out-dueled Bunn Middle 59-55. Terrell Lane took the third spot with 11 points.
JAMESTOWN -- Poor weather shortened Louisburg College’s scheduled four-game baseball series at Guilford Tech to just a pair of contests in Region X action.
Both matchups were played last Saturday at Ragsdale High School. The Hurricanes won the opener 1-0, but the Titans clawed back in the final to edge Louisburg by a 3-2 score.

FRANKLIN COUNTY -- Dillon Joyner blasted a pair of home runs and Gray Ayscue pitched a complete game as Louisburg earned a 10-4 road victory last Friday night against Northern Carolina Conference and backyard rival Bunn.
With the win, LHS remained as part of a three-way tie atop the NCC with Roanoke Rapids and North Johnston. Each of those clubs has one conference setback apiece.

LOUISBURG -- Bunn vs. Louisburg used to be one of the area’s hottest fast-pitch softball rivalries, but it hasn’t been that way over the past few seasons.
BHS added another chapter to its recent dominance last Friday with a 15-0 decision over the Lady Warriors in a Northern Carolina Conference showdown at the LHS Softball Field.
HENDERSON -- Former local high school athletes are among those who recently signed national letters-of-intent to join the women’s volleyball team at Vance-Granville Community College.
Julia Sumner of Henderson is set to join the Vanguards this year after compiling an outstanding record on the Southern Vance High School volleyball squad.
